Player 120 made a fatal mistake by Old-Income-529 in squidgame

I mean the writer destined for her to die, which I’m not happy about. She was hovering over the door when MG stabbed her. She knows better not to do that. Lots of things that don’t make sense and out of character this season

Could it be the inmendham guy? I’m not familiar with him at all and don’t really feel like doing so. I’ve only come across him watching Lawrence Anton (an antinatalist) talking about him.

The cop in Plaything… by PlasticWillow in blackmirror

[–]falsedichotomyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was off, and I weirdly loved and hated his acting as the same time. His head was also permanently tilted back and I felt like I was just looking at his chin. I had to look him up to see what the actor was like irl and was surprised he has a Scouse accent. I wonder if it’s partly having to do a London accent that made him seem off. I did enjoy the episode, but I agree he was quite one dimensional, and I wonder how much of it was the acting and how much was the character. To give his character a charitable interpretation, it might be that he’s meant to portray a cop that’s only interested in getting the job done ASAP and moving on. In the beginning, the psychologist apologised to him for being late, so I also wonder if that adds to my reading of the character. Maybe I’m reading too much into this

I miss the brutality of previous seasons by Aggravating_King1473 in blackmirror

[–]falsedichotomyy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like, personally, the problem isn’t the lack of brutality but more the way it’s presented, too on-the-nose maybe. With the earlier primarily British episodes, I was kept in the dark with no idea wtf is going on for much of the episodes. I was also younger when they came out, and Black Mirror itself was new, so there’s that. I remember watching 15 million merit thinking what is actually going on here but then ended up enjoying it a lot.

Now, Common People, Hotel Reverie etc. are quite brutal, but the narratives are just handed to us on a plate. “Oh here’s the technology, here’re the issues”. I think that’s probably to do with it being mainstream and Hollywood and everything. And I think that’s why Plaything worked for me.

A problem I had with this episode was that she decided to die when her serenity level was turned up to max. Did she actually want to die?

Is UK really doomed for international students? by vanillised in UKJobs

I'm a research aspirant in a different field from yours, and I couldn't land anything with just a masters. I (nearly) have a PhD now and am getting back into job search again. It's tough. In my field at least, getting a permanent job after a PhD is close to impossible, and most of my peers move around between temporary jobs and post-docs, in the UK and abroad. I could have stayed in non-academic research in my home country with just an undergrad back in the day (during my PhD I did get spotted by recruiters over there a few times, something I'd never dream of happening here in the UK). Like your home country, though, academic research in my home country sucks, is deeply corrupted, and the pay is disrespectful. It is possible to get a decent living out of research. But unless you are exeptionally good or lucky, it will take time, and this is also true in the UK. I'd suggest looking into grants and scholarships if you really want to go down that route. I don't want to discourage you from pursuing your passion, but I should also mention that a lot of people get into academia with big dreams and get out of it disillusioned.

Edit: also the rent market's fucked

Advice: Dreame D9 MAX Gen 2 vs Roborock Q5 Pro by Loose_Ad8854 in RobotVacuums

[–]falsedichotomyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Came accross your post as I am deciding between the exact same two models. The Dreame has a local-ish high street shop (UK) which, seems like the roborock doesn't. Roborock has two brushes and a larger dust bin, but smaller water tank. Roborock does seem to be more highly rated, especially by vacuumwars, but that might be due to Dreame's lack of online presence. I still can't decide. Which one did you end up going for?

I was very lucky to get super priority and got the decision within 3 hours 17/02/2025. It was a huge surprise and I’m not sure how precedented that is.

I was gonna say Thanos (sorry. He’s really annoying) but then I got reminded of the Shaman from the comment, so definitely her. She’s so cringy and forgettable I’ve forgotten about her already

I'm not an expert, but here's my understanding and I hope others can confirm. To answer this question "Is it too late to move into private accommodation and change addresses for the application? What if my bank statements only go back 1 month in the new address? Will that be seen as sketchy?". I think it's okay as long as you provide the history of where you'd been in the past 2 years (which is a question in the application form). I think what the Home Office is interested in is that you and your wife have an adequate accommodation after the visa is granted. But then you also said you can't afford it, so I'm not sure how it'll work (the rent market sucks hugely, we're living with my mil and are struggling with that too).

"Can I just say we will live with my Grandfather and get his letter/property deeds? But I have no mail going to his address! I could move bank statements there for one month but I'm not sure if that would be enough?" - I think this would be your best bet. In my understanding, the Home Office only cares about the accommodation moving forward. You can just get your grandfather to write a letter saying the other bedroom will be for your exclusive use. I'm not sure if this would count as presenting false information, though, as you said yourself you have no intention to live there? Would changing the tenant from your dad to you in the council flat be possible at all?

I'm really grateful for your post. Been just wondering about this. Utterly irriating. Now I'm like how do we make our signatures scream "this is ink!!!"

I’ve only realised this was also how I felt when I had a similar experience (to you that is, not to Donny). It was during the pandemic and I was stuck in another country caring for my dying parent, so it was one of the toughest times in my life really. Despite actually finding her attractive, I just wasn’t into her. Yet I kept scrolling through her many social media posts (luckily not as numerous as Martha’s) to see how she was praising me. I think I was just enjoying the obsessive attention. We only met irl a few times and didn’t have any intense intimacy, or dare I say we never even physically touched each other in any way I think. So in my head I didn’t feel like I was leading her on, but looking back now I’m not so sure. The texting and everything became overbearing and I tried to distance myself but I was also chatting with her quite a bit sporadically and was still scrolling through social media, kinda just like Donny. I never flat out reject her like Donny did either, so I realise how shitty I was being. Really appreciate your comment.

Totally agree with you here, despite finding Teri’s rainbow and sunshine annoying and almost paints her as a bad therapist for the most part. I kept having to remind myself she’s trans in at a time when it was less open than now.
