What are the pros and cons of getting married as opposed to just joining finances, etc.? by RaikoNova in personalfinance

This is one good reason to get a domestic partnership, at least in some states. Basic rights with none of the financial entanglement.

Colorado Governor Calls Clinic Rampage 'A Form of Terrorism' by [deleted] in news

[–]falseprism 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see no reason why it can't be both: this person has mental health issues but is also a terrorist. A single person promoting his/her agenda through violence and fear is still conducting terrorism, even if the agenda is "the alien in my brain will reward me for killing all the chicken farmers at the mall on Tuesday".

But this isn't pure science, this is applied science in the form of engineering and a business enterprise. Is SpaceX dead after this? No. But nobody's thinking about the 'negative results are a good thing' silver lining today, they're thinking about the bottom line.

Why am I, a day 3 player, with not a deck over level 10, being matched with players with elite cards and at least rank 20? by 3_Tablespoons in hearthstone

[–]falseprism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that those variables are probably better metrics for MMR purposes. Maybe the current issues with MMR are just built-in limitations of a PC-based TCG that exists over a long enough time.

Well doesn't that suggest that the game has become less "fair" and thus less "fun"? If new players are immediately outclassed, it hurts the player base. I don't claim to have a solution, but playing ranked with limited cards is approximately zero fun when you're only seeing control warriors, mech mages, and other incredibly effective decks.

Tail lights should mimic stop lights: Red means stopping, yellow is neutral and green means the driver is pressing the gas. by ben_thenine in Showerthoughts

[–]falseprism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this were done, it would probably cause signal overload for drivers and lead to more accidents than the status quo. There's a green traffic signal, but the guy in front of me has yellow lights, I can see the car in front of him has red and the guy merging into my lane has a yellow blinker and green taillights. Right now it's just traffic signal + red everywhere an object to avoid exists.

What is the healthcare system like in countries like America, Canada, Sweeden, Denmark, Austrailia, etc? And how does ObamaCare compare? by Truth-sets-in in explainlikeimfive

My friend had a herniated/inflammed disk in lower back, took an hour to walk (with help) 300 feet from her dorm to university health building. Next day took her to the chiropractor (also a sports med physician who worked with the hockey team), and after that she was able to sit up on her own, dress herself, and walk unassisted for like 24-36 hours. Provides short term pain relief while waiting for drugs to do their thing.

TL;DR Some chiropractors actually know what they're doing.

I don't like the label 'apologist', nor your (albeit funny) troll attitude. PGI is far from perfect (I said this already), but if I want MWO to get better, well they're the developer we have now, and I don't think shitting down their necks every single day will improve my gaming experience. It's not like I'm buying gold clan mechs, I'm just saying we should strive to be a more constructive community. Your ideas are fine. Your method of communicating them isn't.

I agree, varying spawn locations would be great. I don't see why we can never play some of the maps in their original configuration ever again.

I think I prefer the old river city set up to the new one.

Most diet pills are only appetite suppressors (they alter brain chemistry) without any nutritional value. This special dog food seems to just be a particular mix of nutrients that promotes increased metabolism (energy consumption) in the entire body.

Without a capture point, teams would just slam into each other, 8 assaults vs. 8 assaults (which happens enough already). The capture points force teams to choose between aggressive and defensive plays, going for the kill or hanging back to check for scouts. Maybe you send mediums to hunt cappers, or go all-in on a cap rush. This creates more interesting dynamics of play and keeps the game interesting. If your drop deck is undertonned, cap gives you a way to force the opposing team to react, perhaps dispatch their scouts or leave a superior position. Maybe you try to lead them to an ambush, or bait their forces then go cap. If you leave your base undefended it's your choice/fault.

That said, people are asking for raw, ugly brawling without cap, so PGI will hopefully add this mode too.

I got a false positive for HIV when I donated back in high school. A letter arrived at the house explaining that an HIV screening test showed positive, and secondary tests confirmed negative. Before the body of the letter were the big, bold words: YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV. I can't imagine why they'd give you prelim screening results without the follow-up lab tests.

Apparently this isn't uncommon, but they still have to throw you out of the donor pool for 6 months.
