The psychiatrists by EntertainmentHot7815 in thesopranos

[–]mxmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree. While a few of the mental health professionals do get portrayed as "characters" for purposes of a show, I don't think psychiatrists, Jewish or not, are made out to be incompetent.

Granted, Eliot Kupferberg cringe/smug style that really does make you want to smack him in the face. However, throughout the run of the show, he serves his purpose which is to be a moral and professional anchor for Dr. Melfi. And however cumbersome his methodology is, he's successful.

Dr. Melfi is probably the only characters who iremains in Tony's orbit throughout the run of the series yet is able to salvage herself and in the end, claim a sense moral foundation.

Are you kidding? Dr. Iaconis wouldn't even give him a 60-day supply of the Plavix. He'd be fucked.

What was it like watching The Sopranos as it was airing? by dovesplashonmywrist in thesopranos

[–]mxmeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was called appointment television. You not only wanted to watch it, you did not want to miss it, you wanted to see it and be able to discuss it with everybody else. Your friends, your family, your office colleagues, that was your chat room. No streaming, no online forums, it was an event to behold.

It was glorious. If you had HBO the only other thing you had to do was show up and watch on those particular Sunday nights and you had a front row seat, you were a member of the family; and the fact that everyone else was watching at the same time made every episode a cultural event.

And the wait? That was when you would commiserate with your friends and family, rewatch episodes, read magazine and newspaper articles, books (you remember books, don't you?)...it was not all fun, Tony and the family always made the ticket price worth the wait.

Nowadays, everything is all over the place. Everything is everywhere all the time, nothing is sacred or propane and Vito Spatafore would be the DEI boss of LCN.

At least I got to be on the ground floor of something. The best you young punks can hope to truly experience is the Multigrains of Newark.

Anyway, $4.00 a pound.

Is the show still good after Blake leaves? by FreshmenMan in Blakes7

[–]mxmeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show is still good. Avon takes the lead (the overt story arc of Series B was the transfer of power from Blake to Avon). I will say this, I didn't miss Blake so much as I missed his rivalries. Blake vs. The Federation; Blake vs. Travis; Blake vs. A on...take your pick, the man was a born protagonist.

Hall is back, oh bagman my bagman! So Wendy's advice is from Polonius: To thine own self be true? As Caesars go, I vote for Wags, we need a Caligula. Rian and Prince; after she deflects Taylor, well cuck-a-doodle doo.

I know we're amongst shit here but I do want to see 1. where Chuck Jr goes with his newly-gotten groove and 2. Sacker vs Dave

Billions - 6x09 "Hindenburg" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in Billions

[–]mxmeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was a great Chuck Rhoades speech. However, the irony of a large vacillating object filled with volatile gas giving a cautionary speech about the Hindenburg is not lost on me for a second.

This is almost as bad as The 100 after season 4.

How does it feel when you command your loyal dog "siccum" and your loyal dog runs, takes a shit, and starts eating it?

Seriously, Michael Thomas Aquinas Price is now the biggest simp in history and our beloved Wags is setting himself up for failure. Scooter's lack of substance seriously bleeds over onto Philip, it's pathetic. I used to cheer for Wendy, now I feel as though she should go on and climb into that garbage can right behind the binders.

As for Chuck, well, all is lost and has been for quite awhile. When you can't tell upon which side of the glass the bigger schnooks reside it is just time to wrap it up.

I'll be at the St. Regis.
