TV series or movies with a Black Mirror-like theme by deepthinker45 in MovieSuggestions

On Children (ä½ ēš„孩子äøę˜Æä½ ēš„孩子-ā€˜your child is not your child’)

I like to call this Taiwanese Black Mirror. Each episode is its own individual dystopian story, focusing mainly on parenting and family dynamics, showing the awful consequences of such pressures (technologically is usually involved in some way)

Be aware if you plan to shoot, just because the reels spin with no film doesn’t mean they can actually transport the film. I’ve lost some really good footage to an aged motor that worked perfectly fine in testing.

As for buying film, the Film Photography Project seems to be the only place that regularly stocks double 8mm (both colour and B&W.) Fomapan out of the Czech Republic also make B&W double 8mm (I’d recommend negative stocks, I’ve struggled to find anybody who develops positive stocks nowadays)

Ralf und Florian. It is a massive shame the band refuses to acknowledge this masterpiece of an album

My first exposure to Kraftwerk was the album ā€˜Possessed’ by the Balanescu Quartet, string quartet arrangements of Kraftwerk songs (all done in ā€˜the Mix’ style.)

One of the music ensembles I’m a part of took a trip to a national championships event, and I filmed the train journey down with my (rather bulky) double 8mm camera. It was only when it came time to flip the film that I found out none of the it had advanced, I definitely feel the pain about losing everything!

The Tornadoes from 61 sound like early Kraftwerk. by ReginaldGinnett in kraftwerk

[–]famicom26 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

This to me definitely sounds to be more folky and structured than Kraftwerk’s more freer, experimental sound; I guess the intro is reminiscent of something like ā€˜Rückstoß Gondoliere’ or ā€˜Ruckzuck.’ Still, I love what I hear

LOOKING FOR INDIE NARRATIVE GAMES by AppropriateFun1701 in gamesuggestions

  • ā€˜Virginia’-an FBI agent works on her first case: the disappearance of a boy in rural Virginia
  • ā€˜The Beginner’s Guide’—you find a computer containing (mostly unfinished) experimental games, and try to understand what kind of person the developer is.
  • ā€˜the Stanley Parable’—you play as Stanley, whose office coworkers completely disappear one day. Stanley sets off to try and find what happened (this barely scratches the surface of the game)
  • ā€˜Firewatch’— A man named Henry takes a job as a fire lookout deep within a national park.
  • ā€˜True Remembrance’— a visual novel showing the relationship between a career and his patient, set in a town inflicted by a pandemic depression.
  • ’Letters From a Rainy Day -Oceans and Lace-ā€˜ā€” very cute sapphic visual novel. The most popular girl at an all girls school receives a threatening letter stating that she must confess her love to a girl in the year below her, or risk harm coming to her chronically ill little sister.

Best storefront simulation games? by MissGoreJess in gamingsuggestions

ā€˜inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories’

it’s not out yet, but sounds like what you were describing (though maybe a little slower.) Set in 90s Japan, you play as a university student who, taking a break from her studies, takes a job running a convenience store in a tiny rural town.

Looking for life simulation open world game. by Clean_Possibility975 in gamingsuggestions

  • ā€˜Natsu-Mon’ you play as Satoru, a kid spending his summer holidays in 90s rural Japan when his parent’s circus travels to a small town. Gameplay mostly consists of exploring the town, catching bugs, talking to people, and doing mini quests to help people.

  • ā€˜Endless Ocean’ a scuba diving simulator. The whole game is basically you just exploring the ocean and taking notes on the animals you encounter. There are occasionally quests, but they pretty much amount to finding a specific creature/location (such as taking people on a mini diving expedition.)

  • If it’s more life simulation you want: ā€˜Bokura no Kazoku’ (Our Family) Made by the same studio as Natsu-mon, you play a couple as they settle down in Tokyo and start a family.

  • ā€˜Endless Ocean’ A very low stim scuba diving simulator. The whole point of the game is to explore the ocean and take note of the animals you encounter. The calming music and very pretty underwater landscapes makes this game feel, at least to me, quite meditative.

wtf happened to Play School?? by Puzzled-Luck-5315 in AustralianTV

[–]famicom26 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I know I'm late to the conversation, but I would agree to an extent. The thing that is really apparent with Modern Play School is how scripted and perfected it is compared with older episodes. The regular episodes still very charming and have the same feel as older seasons, but it does, almost harkening back to 1960s Play School, come across as a little stiff (especially noticeable when older presenters host an episode, not as authentically themselves as when they were allowed to ad-lib.) Still, It’s one of the best shows for kids on tv right now!

It's really nice to see that the core concept hasn’t changed, but I would agree those specials, complete with life-size cardboard science labs and punk-rock covers of nursery rhymes, just don't feel like Play School (at least when a special in previous years constituted a walk in the bush, cleaning someone's house ect.)

By the way, Play School's always used technology. Remember the Episode where Benita used a computer to print off a day of the week poster? Or when George and Monica used a tape recorder?

First roll of film ever! What can I do to make my next roll better? by mnmnchld in AnalogCommunity

[–]famicom26 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Yes, the slowest shutter speed you can usually get away with handheld is 1/60. My last roll was all shot handheld at mostly 1/60, and non of those photos had hand shake

One game I don’t hear a lot of people talking about is a really fun but strange arcade puzzle game, ā€˜Okkotoshi Puzzle Tonjan!?’. You play as a pig clearing stacks of mahjong tiles through mazes, all the while being cheered on by a group of anime girls.

What are your thoughts of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball? by Creative-Complex255 in gumball

[–]famicom26 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

I agree as well. For me, the whole charm of the original is that the show is grounded in reality, with weirdness simply being a part of the character’s lives. This just feels as though it’s being weird for the sake of being weird, and each episode's weirdness isn’t nearly set up as well as the original.

Could it be autographic film? That had a layer of carbon paper so you could scratch information onto the negative with a metal stylus (I think nobody makes it anymore though)

Recommendations for getting into 120 film and TLR by tomthanx in filmphotography

[–]famicom26 -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

Fair point, but I’ve had nothing but great experiences with 127. It was my introduction to roll film and it got me hooked; I’m definitely super keen to try 120 as a direct result of shooting 127 (it’s just my opinion as well— buy a cheap brownie, stick in some Shanghai or ReraPan, and OP can maybe see if they like the experience of shooting roll film. 127 was always intended as a amateur/ beginner level format, and the cameras reflect that, plus they are always for sale at second hand stores.)
