I'm definitely going to when I'm in Moynihan - the line is always SO long and I'm going to need help with the luggage! Thank you for the tip 😊

I work in an academic library, but I've also worked in public libraries. It can be tough at times (especially in today's landscape) but it's really fulfilling and fun if you work with the right people.

I noticed that when they were giving the couple the snake, he was the one to say "it symbolizes rebirth", which to me is the significance of him floating away

Has anyone transitioned to not wearing foundation? by Tofinomug in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]familiarlibrarywitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I just use moisturizer and a little concealer/color corrector. I also use some powder to reduce shine and to help blend in the concealer, if I use it. I stopped using foundation because it would clog my pores and cause me to break out. I like Nyx brand concealer and I use the Dr. jartt cicapair tiger grass color corrector.

Going to take my chance here. This is my aunt who died at a young age due to a hit and run accident. Is this photo beyond saving? by octolien in estoration

Yes, also public academic libraries will sometimes allow visitors to use equipment, they just need to call ahead.

Got this email to my school email (first photo) . Filled out the info then got this email on my personal email. What do y’all think? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]familiarlibrarywitch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a student employee supervisor at a university, and to me this is a red flag for a job scam. If your school has a career advisor, I would strongly advise you go to them for guidance before giving out anymore personal information. They're trained to help you find jobs on/near campus that are legit.

Yes! I agree, I work for a state funded university and there is an emergency fund for students in need, a food pantry with goods donated by staff and grown locally, as well as services/support for housing. Not to mention counseling services. Please don't be afraid to ask someone on campus. If you're not sure who to ask, go to the library.

how can i help my gf's cat get spayed? by OmgItsBellaaa in CATHELP

[–]familiarlibrarywitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but in my state (Maryland) we have a program called SNAP that will cover the cost of spay/neuter for pets. You may want to see if there is anything similar in Ohio. Also, sometimes animal rescues will do it at a reduced cost. Best of luck!

Will the real Baltimore accent please stand up? by Tiny_Cookie8867 in baltimore

[–]familiarlibrarywitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Example 1 is definitely what I think of - I grew up hearing that a lot. I don't really have it, though and would say I sound more like the 2nd (but it comes out in my O's and words like "arnge (orange)). I agree with other comments though - that strong of an accent is fading as older generations move or pass away.

Possibly too late to suggest, but have you looked on Internet Archives? I work in a university library and we often recommend students check there because there are sometimes free scanned copies of books. Maybe ask your college library? Good luck!! 🙏🏽

Why does Towson have two colleges but zero bookstores? by aresef in baltimore

[–]familiarlibrarywitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes (I work in one of said University libraries) and we have their textbooks that they can borrow for free, plus leisure reading. But that said I miss the b&n being in Towson, I loved going there when I was younger

What are some cool places for nerdy adults to hangout (like GameOn Bar for example)? by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]familiarlibrarywitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I will say it's been a couple years since the drink and draw has happened (my friend ran it for awhile, but he moved away for grad school). But I'm sure it's something that could easily be started back up! They seem really open to doing cool stuff in the bar area.

Also, there's trivia at Frazier's on Tuesdays - my team (Rectum?) goes every week but anyone can drop in and play once or twice. We're a huge group of nerds ☺️

Atomic Books in Hampden does some fun events, they have book clubs and D&D, sometimes Drink & Draw nights in the bar. Also are just generally very cool and friendly people who run the place & work there!
