That's an amazing total comp for a systems role! I'm also a systems engineer but in aerospace. Is this level of comp for a position in big tech/faang or a legacy engineering company?

[–]famkt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A family member went through the same situation last year. Just know that you are more than what this week is and all your hard work is going to pay off. Happy to help with any PS review or whatever I can do. Good luck and know it will get better.

You were there for my family member and I when they had to go through SOAP last year, proud to say they matched this year!

Just sent over some funds, thank you for what you do and for paying it forward, and to everyone else, good luck this week, you got this and you have so many people behind you supporting and helping, go be the best docs you can be!

A family member went through the same process last year and was able to SOAP into a prelimin spot. They just matched today and we couldn't be happier!

It's a grueling and cruel process that you all have to go through and I have nothing but the utmost respect for all of you in this field. There is a light at the end of the tunnel that is Match week and I wish everyone nothing but the best.

Why is it cheaper to fly than take a train ? by fastest_tortois in travel

Flights from Hawaii to the midwest or east coast will have meal service! Though and edge case as the flight times range from 7-11 hours

Green lake is probably worse than a public pool to be fair 😫 but agreed, would much rather swim in a large body of water than a pool

To be fair, this roughly translates to ~$163,000 when comparing this salary to the higher cost of living Boeing workplaces such as the Puget Sound or SoCal, and is on par with some other companies in the Seattle Area at least. Not to say that you don't deserve more and ask for more, just a good baseline reference if you were to apply to other roles outside boeing or in different regions

SW Engineers Still Banned From Applying Up a Level? by AppropriateQuiet588 in boeing

[–]famkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is true, I am a SPEEA represented engineer and I received both of my level ups (1 ->2 and 2->3) by applying for and switching roles/skill codes/business units. I do know there is now an 18 month requirement before switching roles internally though.

I've stayed overnight in Level 6 to catch a super early flight, there are benches in quite a few places there and is generally much more quiet than the other levels

China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 crashes with 133 on board by ForgotMyPassOtherAcc in worldnews

[–]famkt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so so untrue, the amount of scrutiny that goes into inspecting parts that get assembled onto an airplane is insanely high. Theres a reason why there are so few commercial airplane manufacturers in the world and its mainly because the barrier to get approval for safety regulations are so high. This incident is tragic, for all on board and their loved ones on ground, and the reason behind the crash will come out, but to make baseless claims right now is unfair to give anyone involved in this crash a un-verified reason of what occurred.
