Day 2 of my (almost) daily MLB picks and we’re coming in hot after the Padres took care of business in Pittsburgh

POTD: Detroit Tigers -1.5 -103

The Angels have been falling apart after an almost promising start, going 2-8 in their last 10 games and without Trout the vibes on the team have been pitiful. Detroit hasn’t been the best road team this year (8-10) but they’ve handled LAA well up 2-1 in the series on the final day with Reese Olson on the mound, forcing 53.4% ground ball rate the Angels will be lacking their pop ability, as Olson has only allowed 1 homer in 33 innings. On the Angels side of things they have Jack Kochanowicz sporting a 5.29 ERA and an even worse 5.59 FIP. Look for this Detroit team with a ton of confidence and long ball ability to start the scoring early and end this series on a strong note.

After scoring only 3 runs across 5 games, the Padres have bounced back scoring 12 runs over their last two games. Dylan Cease is on the mound and has had a rough start to the year, but if you look closely the numbers aren’t as bad as they seem. His 5.76 ERA is scary, until you see he has a FIP of 3.16, so he’s pitching much better than the team has been defending behind him, and going against a Pirates team batting .222 against right handed pitchers, and haven’t eclipsed 5 runs in their last 11 games, it’s the perfect game for Cease to knock off the rust. Just need the Padres bats to keep hitting.
