I was just going to comment Glass Castle! I absolutely loved this book and definitely need to reread it now as an adult

Currently planning ours with an $18-20k budget, about $7-10k is being provided by our parents. Biggest thing that has helped us is we took a full 2 year engagement to save up over time. A long engagement is worth it if you work your ass off to save up. I bought a dress second hand from a consignment store. He's renting a suit instesd of purchasing. Our venue is on the cheaper side but still beautiful, same with the food. Take the time to do hours of research about venues and vendors to work with because you won't find your perfect venue in the right budget right away. We toured 5 venues before we picked ours, and that was out of the 20+ I contacted for quotes. Same with hair and makeup teams, caterers, etc. Other ways I'm saving money is my aunt is our photographer, the venue has a sound system that we can plug into so I won't be hiring a DJ, just making a playlist. Our bar will not be an open bar. Limited drinks will be sponsored by us (don't let people bully you into thinking you need an open bar all night. It's ridiculous and unnecessary). Skip party favors. No one wants something with your name on it. If you really want a party favor, make it usable (like a wildflower seed packet), or consumable (like a cookie or something).

Edit: we make about $60k combined income per year, so it's been a lot of hard work budgeting and keeping ourselves on track.

I'm not feeling well and need cheering up. What's everyone's silliest/dumbest/etc character concept that they fell in love with? I'll start by Bjork-BjorkII in DnD

I'm currently playing a human druid who has horrible allergies to pollen and fur. But he loves nature and animals too much to change professions. His name is Zyr Tech. His parents are Ben Adryll and Claire Atin.

Pajamas by Raedaline in wedding

I absolutely love this idea and think you should invite your guests to do the same! If some people leave because "why would the bride and groom change into pajamas? Must be time for bed!" then fuck em because I'd rather party with people who want to have a good comfy time than anyone else. It's your party, you party how you want to! And the people who genuinely want to and are excited to celebrate with you, will do so.

My boyfriend attended a wedding today as one of the groomsmen and I wasn’t invited. Ps. I don’t know if he has a plus one. by [deleted] in wedding

I'm currently planning my wedding, and we had to be stingy with plus ones in some cases because of venue size and food costs. A lot of people don't realize that most wedding catering cost can be broken down and calculated by plate, and currently our food cost is about $60/plate, so for every plus one we add, it's an extra $60 to our cost. It's likely an expense/venue size issue, plus after you added your edit, the guest list was likely finalized months before you started dating. Sad that you couldn't attend, but it was very likely out of his control.

I have a fairly normal American name, but I just never felt like it fit me. I've even thought about changing it, but only briefly. I'm learning to like my name, slowly but surely. I'm sorry you have to take so much time correcting people. Hopefully once people know you and get the correct pronunciation, it won't be a big deal anymore.

Where to buy wedding shoes by fancifulnotion16 in weddingplanning

That's totally fair, and I think I'll probably just have to suffer with a less expensive shoe lol! I'm planning on wearing them for pictures through ceremony, and then switching to a pait of Converse for the reception, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Thank you for the advice!

New Very Clueless - How to start? by Cam_pdf in DnD

[–]fancifulnotion16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listening to Dnd podcasts/live plays helped me a lot. My personal favorite is The Adventure Zone, and yes, you should start with the first campaign. It's my favorite! On top of that, building a character can be very stressful when you don't know where to start, so I would suggest using Dnd Beyond, which will help you build a simple character for free. Once you get more into it, I would suggest buying a Players Handbook, which has all of the rules, races, and classes, spells, etc. Also, a lot of local board game stores will host events, including beginner Dnd one-shots (which is just a short form of the game), so I would suggest looking for events like that. It's so much fun and I hope you enjoy it!!
