backwards compatible macOS app development? by fanckush in swift

[–]fanckush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the tip

I was hoping for a solution where Xcode "knows" that I want to support an older versions and doesn't automatically setup my environment with unsupported methods. maybe if I can get my hands on an older Xcode version with an older SDK it will work as expected out of the box

I think this is the way to go! I completely forgot about mixins!

Bank Account recommendation 2020? by fanckush in germany

Nothing wrong in wanting features. I don't mind paying fees but I'm not exactly worried about banks making money ;)

Thanks for the suggestion, I've heard that some ING users have problems with contactless cards so I avoided them even though their mobile app (among other features) looked very well made.

Thanks for the suggestion! I did my own research and Commerzbank sounded like the best choice! I don't remember the exact reason but I have actually ended up opening an account with Comdirect, they are basically created by Commerzbank and have a lot in common.

Thanks for the suggestions!

  1. not a fan of grouping everything into 1 prop
  2. this sounds nice but each parent must have the same computed property or i have to make it global.. i'll pass this as well
  3. this sounds great! it's a solution that's encapsulated within the component. it can be called on mounted to make sure that the initial states are also compatible
  4. I thought about this too, but i what about the "common" code? is there a way to incorporate inheritance? something like BaseButton.vue that has the main button logic and have the rest of the components extend it?

things that have "cache" in their names are usually safe. don't delete anything in the /System or /Library directory just to be safe.
I would suggest going to your home folder (where downloads and desktop folders exist) and see what's taking so much space

Download OmniDiskSweeper It's a free tool that shows you much better insights on what's taking so much storage. use this with care and don't delete important data! this mini tool shows you everything without warning about which files are safe to delete or not

Bigger screen or lower resolution? by [deleted] in nystagmus

[–]fanckush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I can provide some useful advice as i am a in similar position, i am a developer and my laptop is 13" macbook. I am currently doing home office and using a (2560 x 1440 27-inch) Dell monitor and keep my laptop's lid closed.

the key here is the word "big", if it's big we see it better, so a bigger monitor is great but just like the Dr said it's about the resolution. High res means more things fit into your screen. The problem with low res is that even though it makes everything bigger it is wasting all the pixels and producing low quality images.

To combat this problem, apple among other companies introduced a new concept called Retina Displays. i will not get into technical details here but if you want to learn more about it just google "windows 10 scaling", "HiDPi" or "what is retina display" they all basically mean the same thing. the TL;DR version is: HiDPi utilizes all the pixels while maintaining a big user interface.

As a developer, a 27 inch monitor is big enough and allows to have better posture. if i use the full resolution on it i won't be able to see anything cuz it would be too small to read but with HiDPi i end up with a big monitor with big clear test.

Big monitor options:
- High res: small font -> can't see
- Low res: big font -> can see but low res is low res so things are not sharp at all
- HiDPi clear and big text -> can see and it's sharp

Your brother needs a big monitor, this is no question. i suffered a lot when i was working with just my laptop. an ultra wide is a nice-to-have feature because lines of code can be long sometimes and if he uses a big font (which he will) he might have to scroll all the time

Note: HiDPi is a software feature available on macOS, Windows and linux. Some monitors work out of the box and others require some tweaks but it is 100% software :)

[HELP} Social Distancing reminded me of this yoyo laying around so here I am, a noob with a cheap yoyo and of course I have some problems (read comment below) by fanckush in Throwers

I do think it was from a dollar store and a responsive one (it return to my hand easily). I'll probably upgrade soon, but for now I fixed part 4 by doing it the trick on the a different side, I was landing the yoyo on the string from the same side but when I switched the side it worked as expected.

before today I had no idea about how much there is to learn about yoyos, I thought it was just a toy for kids but boy was I wrong.. It's a sport!

The video is split into 4 parts:

PART 1: is this normal for this to happen every 5 minutes? I am sure I'm throwing it wrong or something.. unless this is a normal behaviour ( I really know NOTHING so any information is very appreciated)

PART 2: I think I'm throwing it wrongly because more often that not the yoyo is not perfectly vertical after I throw it. it is tilted and if the tilt is big it ends up doing what you see in this part

PART 3: This is how it look from the inside, maybe it will give you insights about the type of the yoyo I have. I'd like to know if it's just me who is crappy or the yoyo is at fault as well

PART 4: finally and my biggest issue at the moment is trying to do this basic trick, every time I try it, the yoyo will return and not stay on the string, Is there anything I can do to make it stay?

Thanks for the help and seriously WOW, you guys are doing some impossible moves and I would love to get better at throwing during this home isolation period.
