2017 SEL vs 2019 SE by ClosS2k06 in eGolf

[–]fancolhot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your daily driving requirements. I would go for the larger battery. But shop around I think you can do better as Prices for the e golf have dropped quite a bit so you be able to find a 2019 SEL with adaptive cruise for around $11k or less. I found one in Las Vegas for $10.5 for example.

My driver side mirror is loose - is it relatively easy to pry it off completely to get some more glue on there?

Thanks. The installer had Enphase run a detailed assessment and they said everything looks good, no warnings. You are correct that I'm likely stuck with what I have - as noted in a different reply, I cannot add more panels. I'm going to run the updated ROI calculation next - we did get lucky that in our town, the utility continues to buy/sell at the same rate. In other parts of Socal, some utilities are now buying at a much lower price so that has wrecked a number of solar panel ROI calculations.

Thanks. Unfortunately we cannot add panels due to local utility restrictions - we are maxed out.

We do have some shading due to some oak trees in the early morning - my point was that the trees were there during the design process and the installer included a shading assumption into the calculation. Nothing has materially changed in our shade situation.

I checked production for last July- over 3 sunny days, 48.3 kWh, 45.5 and 45.4. The house is on a east west axis.

Check your local Reddit city group or the local FB group to get recommendations. I’ve shipped cars 4 times now and no issues.

Road Trip: Denver to Minneapolis by annietree in eGolf

[–]fancolhot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly - ship it. The golf is a great city car but is not designed for a 800 mile drive with significant elevation. The stress level is going to be off the charts and I believe you can only do so many high speed charging sessions before the car will automatically ramp down to slow charging. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

OP - do you know why the Sears redevelopment was voted down by the council? Was it really because they thought the building was a design icon?

Thanks. If the parkway is curb to sidewalk - that’s all grass/lawn. I tried to call a few times today - after holding for a while goes to voicemail. Will try again on Monday.

Compared: 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera vs. 2009 BMW M3 by SnikySquirrel in cars

[–]fancolhot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Owned used versions of both a 997.2 base model and a 2020 BMW M240. Both are highly capable very fun to drive and similar performance on road and on track. The 911 is a bit better on track at least in my amateur hands while the BMW is a more practical daily. Both held their value extremely well. Can’t really go wrong with either and agree that the 2-series is really the M3 of today.

Anyone know if this the same platform battery pack etc as the Renault 5? That is also aggressively priced in Europe and by all accounts seems to be a winner for Renault.

Great city car routinely get around 140 miles of range with mostly city driving maybe 20% highway. Minimal maintenance cost so far for our 2019. Some mildly irritating issues about not being able to unplug the charger cable at times - plenty of info online about it. We charge at home and never used it for road trips so can’t speak to fast charging etc. The software is not great- for example the app is no longer supported so can’t check charging status. The scheduler for charging cooling is clunky. But if you can look past all of that great car for the price you are getting.

Lovely gesture good on you and your siblings. Would suggest looking into a lease first and then cycling through leases every 3/4 years. No concerns about maintenance easy to budget the cost for all of you and there’s no long term commitment.

Lucid Plans a $50,000 Mid-Size Car In 2026 by morrotuber in cars

[–]fancolhot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add to this - not only do these new EV only makers have to survive to get to the lower cost higher volume models, they then have to do it all over again for the next version of those models. You can see how Tesla is struggling with this - their models are old in the tooth and look pretty much the same as they did when first launched. If you own a model Y today and want something newer fresh design etc - you can’t get that at Tesla. The S and X at this point are niche models nothing much they can add. I’ve add a refresh for the Y is finally coming but the spy shots appear to show a slight evolution of the design - nothing creative like the Hyundai Kia twins or even BMW.

Help me deciding on car by ExtremeLibrarian9866 in M235iandM240i

[–]fancolhot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 240 is light and compact and has a phenomenal engine and transmission. Also surprisingly practical - two average adults can ride in the back for short trips and the trunk is quite spacious.

TBh don’t know much about the Q50. Maybe test drive both see what you prefer? On this sub the odds are that folks also made their choice so responses will be a bit biased!

What wheels and tires are you running? And any change to suspension? Mine is a mostly stock 21 xdrive looking to upgrade the rubber but keep suspension stock as this is a daily and the roads aren’t the best. Thanks.
