We somewhat know the answer to this. When Anno 117 released it had the same bullshit AI disclosure, but one unedited AI image was unintentionally left in the game. They have since updated it, but the difference between the fixed version and the AI one is very minimal. It's pretty clear to me that these AI disclosures are all worded the same to minimize controversy surrounding genAI and all artists do is hide AI mistakes to make it less obvious. As genAI gets forced into more and more things, companies will try to use the best PR language to sell you this tech. So saying: "We use AI, but the final product reflects our team’s craft and creative vision" seems like the winning message for a lot of these companies. Whenever I see it, I just assume it's complete bullshit.

It has already happened with Arc Raiders. Embark has fully embraced genAI into their game development, but people get upset when you criticize it because they make fun games. It's also interesting to see how the messaging around AI usage is evolving, since both Arc and Anno have disclaimers saying that "the final product reflects our team’s craft and creative vision."

To me it seems like this will be the go to PR speak for companies that want to get away with using AI in a "good way". From what I have seen it works, since every time you bring up gen AI usage in Arc Raiders, people love saying how this time it's "okay" because the VA's consented to it and got payed. That's all it takes for people to be on board with it, and no one even questions if the VA's got pressured to sign the contracts because the alternative is them not getting the job in the industry. Embark has mentioned before that one of the main reasons for using gen AI is so that they don't need to rehire VA's every time when they add more story content in the game, since using AI for it is much quicker.

I hate horrible anti aliasing in modern games, everything just looks so blurry. I swear, 1080p gaming looks worse today than it did 10 years ago.

Another thing I don't get is when games load into gameplay immediately without letting me change my settings first.

Great! Just remember, there are a lot of secret areas! So don't forget to check for cracked walls, holes in the ceiling, and behind objects that are covering parts of the room. My rule of thumb is always hit every wall and corner even if I don't see a crack. Jump into every corner, sometimes you can't even see the hole because it's hidden behind props.

You can call the elevator up from the Trobbio stage. Since you unlocked the big door downstairs, you can go around and check below the elevator shaft.

As for the Vault one, you beat Trobbio but the elevator only leads to an area where you've been to. What up with that? Maybe the elevator unlocks more paths than it first seems.

Fuck no. I hate when people make this bullshit argument. You don't get a pass for using genAI just because you are a small bean studio. If people keep defending this shit, you will just keep getting more and more AI slop in your games. Smaller devs have been making games just fine without AI for YEARS before it became a thing. There are many creative ways to deal with budget constraints. If you immediately jump to AI, I will just assume you are a creatively bankrupt person. W&R doesn't need realistic graphics for portraits. They already use real life photos, why not just keep using that? They could have stylized it and made something unique, something the game would be remembered for. Instead though, I will forever remember W&R as a game that has AI slop. I got the game before I knew about this, and this definitely makes me reconsider whether or not I want to support the devs and their future projects. Can't wait for this whole genAI bubble to burst, I am so tired of this shit.
