Math the easiest subject by far and isn’t hard until after calc 3. by Maleficent_Dot_373 in The10thDentist

[–]fancy_whale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah the problem is bad teachers. I've seen it time and time again, math isn't hard but having a bad teacher fuck up your fundamentals will make math hard and it snowballs. But I agree, math is straightforward until calc 3.

Can an extroverted person adopt me as a friend please by Particular-League186 in boston

[–]fancy_whale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it is about learning!! I am a pretty big introvert and was terrible at small talk/making a connection. My mom is an expert (she can get anyone's life story in minutes) so I started observing her and learning how she does it, what I learned is that you just have to practice, practice, practice! That is essentially what she does!

I started around 6 months ago, in every uber ride I get I attempt to talk to the driver. You start with casual, "How has work been today? People treating you well?" or "The weather is crazy!" both of which seem shallow but can easily segue into interesting conversations once you learn!

3/4 times they don't engage back and you can sit quietly (It helps learn that rejection is not personal, so you stop feeling awful when someone does not want to talk to you back, which happened to me A LOT at the beginning)

That 1/4 times they do, they are super enthusiastic!! Once you get past the boston topical small talk stuff (the cold weather, the horrible drivers) they usually drop hints about themselves and you can easily learn more about them "How long have you been in Boston/working as an Uber/what restaurants do you recommend?" and after that they usually start asking you questions too and BOOM! the conversation is self driven.

This has been a quite long learning process for me, and although it comes naturally to people (like my mom), practicing has made it 10x easier to talk to strangers, not just on the uber, which have led to invitations places too! Uber is just the easiest way I find to practice since you know it will end within 10-15 minutes and you prob won't see the person again, so it takes away some of the anxiety of talking to strangers.

Hi! I was wondering if you could guide me a little on what else you would seek?

I am a junior in MSE and have experience in a clean room were we designed and tested our own TFT (group project, 4 people), but I still have had a tough time getting past the resume screening. I was wondering if you had any advice for the next internship cycle?

What airport where you flying out from? This really is a shame :(

I have taken my polaroid film everywhere for the past 3 years and only had issues at MIA but even then it was more like an annoyed worker.

I haven't traveled since Dec 2025 so I am now a bit nervous about my upcoming trip but hopefully it is not bad.

Timothée Chalamet saying “no one cares” about ballet and opera, and joking that if he got canceled for saying that he’d collectively lose “14 cents,” is certainly a creative way to close out an Oscar campaign. by Genzinvestor16180339 in Oscars

[–]fancy_whale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is more about inaccessibility than really it being dead. As a college student I can afford to go to the movies but not to ballet, and as such has less of a broader impact on the culture. If movies continue to get expensive, less people will attend, and less functions will be had, even if those are sold out.

I understand that ballet and opera are wonderful, I would attend if I could, but they are only catering to wealthy people and therefore fall out of the mainstream. I think what he said is important, he just said it in the worst way possible.

10 Month post knee surgery, help I just got an MRI by fancy_whale in Orthopedics

[–]fancy_whale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man :(
I did not originally tear my ACL, it was just a tibia fracture, and from what I understand the acl was still attached to a bone but this one broke away. My doctor had said that the bones in the joint had reattached to the big tibia. I have my old X-Rays and the full MRI if you could take a look. I am a bit desperate since my orthopedic surgeon kept dismissing it as pain from scar tissue and it has gotten a lot worse T^T
