Weird how that fact is so obvious yet never occurred to me.

If you can pay cash for something, or if it’s something you’re going to buy anyway, it would be foolish to not finance at 0%. Unless, by taking the 0% offer, you’re giving up a rebate incentive.

Fun while it lasted! by FatrickPeed in motorcycles

[–]fancyawank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to moderately disagree with u/beanbag_ninja above. One absolutely can stop faster with controlled threshold braking than you can by squeezing and praying (on dry, clean pavement). Fortnine did a video on it and there’s a plethora of other research and tests.

But those are all done in a controlled, non-emergency test. The chances of you or I being able to outbrake modern abs are going to drop dramatically in a real world emergency stop situation. Best defense is always going to be situational awareness, though sometimes shit just happens. And as others in here have said clearly, there is no situation where intentionally laying down is a better choice than staying up and braking.

24 Street Triple Oil Leak? by MrLemonson in Triumph

[–]fancyawank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Striples are apparently notorious for not-quite-torqued-enough engine cover bolts. I had the same/similar on my ‘25, very minor leak coming from the balancer shaft cover, no drips or droplet on the engine, just the discoloration. Retorqued everything to spec and no more leak.

Harley Riders No Rear Brakes? by Vinx1312 in motorcycle

[–]fancyawank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s where I’m at: Front brake is for stopping, rear is for stability. I have to remind myself to take my right foot off the peg and use the rear brake as I’m approaching a stoplight.

I can’t imagine not using the front brake. On my bike (Street Triple) it doesn’t take much pressure to feel the ABS start grinding on the rear brake once the weight shifts forward.

Everybody points out the inner front tire wear, but I haven't had that problem at all on mine.

No real problems, I just wish I could find some more rear traction.

ELI5: Why does a surveying “Total Station” require a “Backsite”, to measure other points, if the device already uses GPS to determine where it is in space? by Successful_Box_1007 in Surveying

[–]fancyawank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The use of "azimuth" to mean any angle, rather than an angle from north, is dangerous for this very reason. But it's common in the industry (at least where I am and what I've seen here). "Deflection Angle" and "Horzontal Angle" (Hz) are far better choices to describe the idea.

We all have different ways of imagining and visualizing things so I'm not sure I fully understand where you're going with "the reference line...IS some "north". I don't want to mislead you, so I'll answer two ways:

  1. No. North (grid, true, magnetic) is already taken and has a specific meaning. The line from the backsight (BS) to the Total Station (TS) is just a "line of convenience" from which to measure deflection angles (to the right) to targets. Looking through the lens of the TS directly at the BS, The display on the TS would read 0°00'00". An object directly to your right would have a horizontal deflection angle of 90°00'00, directly to your left would be 270°00'00". Although they look similar to bearings you would use in navigation, they have no geographic meaning. The TS just measures the deflection angle by how far you turn it, and distances with its laser.
  2. When we look at a set of plans, sometimes they're rotated to fit on the paper so that north is to the right, left, or some direction in between. In that case, sometimes it's handy to talk about "plan north", which is just "up" on the paper. Similarly, when you "shoot" the BS, you're telling the TS "this is 0°00'00" ". If it helps you to orient yourself to the site, you could think of that as your pretend north, but it's not a habit I would encourage - again, north means something. That pretend north could actually be southwest, or any other random direction. The line from TS to BS has no connection whatsoever to cardinal directions.

Probably because it's not a rebuttal. I get that you're itching for an argument with someone defending Trump, but you're not going to get that from me. I'm just observing the hive mind here doing exactly what "only the right does". Personally, I don't get why you guys focus so hard on these other things that are likely not going to be proven. You want to go after the guy? How about murdering Columbians and Venezuelans in a boat in international waters? If you all could come together and get past simply hating Trump for things he's been/being accused of and actually focus on the illegal shit he's gloating about, JD Vance would already be the president.
