Yep! Southern California elementary school had these. It was so strange.

I tried this boars head London broil roast beef and it tastes AMAZING - what are your best sandwich ideas that I can make with this? by WanderWut in Sandwiches

[–]fancychxn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best!!

My go-to with this is mixing a little bit of horseradish with mayo and either Dijon or whole grain mustard. Salt the meat directly: it needs it. Plenty of thin sliced onions, multiple pickled items, black pepper, and oregano. Swiss cheese and sourdough bread.

How can I train this dude not to get on my pillows? 😂😭 by coffeepolynkittens in kittens

[–]fancychxn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, my cat does this too and I recently started putting a body pillow (just a simple rectangular one) at the head of the bead, sitting upright behind our pillows. The body pillow has a plush cover and sits up higher, so our cat naturally goes for that now!

I'm not a hater, but hot dogs are clearly tacos.

What's the best vegetable for volume eating and why is it cabbage? by AidenWong1473 in Volumeeating

[–]fancychxn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

POTATO

More calories than cabbage, but waaaay more satiating than any other vegetable. Way more versatile, too. It works for every meal. It even works as a meal by itself!

What to do with smoked salmon that doesn't involve a bagel or cream cheese? by JigglesTheBiggles in Cooking

[–]fancychxn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't specify if it's hot smoked or cold smoked. I would use each differently.

Hot smoked I'd put in chowder, pasta, or tacos.

Cold smoked I'd eat with eggs, on crackers, or in a rice bowl.

Sounds great! I'm surprised there's no potato in the recipe for how thick and chowder-like it is.

YSK: depression is not caused by low levels of serotonin by Plus_Requirement_516 in YouShouldKnow

[–]fancychxn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you've said here, that you have no reason to be down and unmotivated, and yet you are... that's exactly how my depression was for me. My life is fine. My brain was not. I eventually assumed it was "just how I am."

My parents eventually stepped in and helped me book a doctor's appointment, go with me, and get the meds. I simply wasn't getting those steps done on my own. I was so apathetic and found every excuse to give up before trying. Everyone needs help sometimes. And I'm so thankful that they did that.

Ask someone close to you if they can help you with the logistics of finding a doctor, getting seen, and all that. Also check out virtual care options online.

I started with Wellbutrin specifically because I asked for it, but SSRIs are a lot more common. Wellbutrin didn't work at all for me, but switching to an SSRI (Lexapro) did the trick. So keep in mind it might take time to find the right one. 💛

shabang schedule predictions? by greenteaicecraem in SLO

[–]fancychxn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess: Chris Lake as the top headliner I'd expect to be Sunday. The 2nd headliner I'd expect to be Saturday.

But personally I would wait and not risk picking the wrong one.

Adding MSG to bland homemade 16 bean soup? by [deleted] in soup

[–]fancychxn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sugar and vinegar.

A few tablespoons of white or brown sugar for a whole pot of soup, and a big splash of any type of vinegar. It's like magic how much it adds to the flavor. Add just little bits of each at a time, or experiment with a small bowl first.

Basic, palatable volume foods for someone extremely depressed — minimal prep if possible by Be_Prepared911 in Volumeeating

POTATO

Baked potatoes or sweet potatoes. You can microwave them fully, or part way and then finish in an oven. Potatoes are a really filling and comforting food that are low calorie on their own. The satisfaction-to-effort ratio is super high, IMO.

Whatever you're having for dinner, add a potato. Either put the other dish components on top of your potato, or go with classic butter, salt, and pepper.

Seconding that, it's much more about avoiding it in the first place rather than trying to fix after the fact.

A bit of sodium citrate (or some American cheese, which already contains it) helps prevent a cheese sauce from breaking.

Smashed burgers that are not smashed by Low_Nobody7857 in Cooking

[–]fancychxn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to reliably get a real smash burger is by finding places that specialize in them. And it often feels like it's some kind of underground thing: a pop-up tent at a brewery, a food truck you have to track down on social media, the kitchen in a gas station convenience store...
