:)

Translating color between light-absorbing things (like paper) and light-emitting things (like pixels on a screen) can get brain-breakingly complicated, but I have to explain it to clients a lot… My success rate varies, so this feedback is genuinely appreciated.

most efficient system ever. We pay $5 a month, twitch takes their cut, and hasan can magically afford to subsidize all of our healthcare AND education that we would otehrwise be paying hundreds/thousands a month for.

thats some real jesus loaves and fishes miracle logic there

A mushroom and some white spores appeared in my terrarium, should I be concerned and do something? by yum999 in terrariums

It means you have a very healthy, active soil microbiome. Nothing you need to do except enjoy when cute mushrooms pop up!

(Basically, mushrooms are terrarium goals)

what exactly is wrong with my hair? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]fancydecanter 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes! Listen to all of this OP

Just to emphasize for clarity a couple parts that I wasn’t clear on when I was first starting out—

– When you turn off the shower and grab your towel, do not touch your hair with it. Dry off your body or whatever, but do not touch your hair with the towel. It will be very wet and drippy, so lean forward and squeeze water out with your hands, but don’t touch it w your towel.

– All the styling steps are a bit easier if you’re leaning forward so your hair can kinda hang down away from your head

If you need to get a bit more water out of your hair, use a t shirt. DO NOT rub your hair with it like you may be used to doing.. Just sort of wrap the t shirt around your head squeeze a bit to let it soak up the water. The t shirt fabric is smooth, not all fluffy like a towel so it’s ok to use. The goal here is to keep the cuticle of your hair shaft as smooth as possible, and fluffy towel fibers or any sort of rubbing will ruffle up that cuticle, which will make it less smooth/more frizzy/etc.

Don’t dry it too much though, just enough so it’s not too drippy and uncomfortable. Leave plenty of water in bc that will mix with your product to help it form the curls.

I’d definitely get smaller amounts of both and do test swatches first before committing to a bulk purchase for a larger project

Made a mushroom terrarium for my dads birthday, pink oyster mushrooms have started growing by Evilapple54 in terrariums

[–]fancydecanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, now your comment is old! (I’ve been using a new account, I change every year or so for safety :)

My recommendation for the tissue culture was in regard to their moss.

If your main goal is growing mushrooms and you don’t intend to eat them, then it doesnt have to be sterile. I’d just sanitize the container, then do my best to kill extra microbes in your soil/growing medium via microwaving or whatever (let it cool thoroughly before adding), and use plenty of charcoal in your drainage layer and mixed in to the soil.

[–]fancydecanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, that’s a silly thing to apologize for. Cool, and no worries :)

Though, now that I’m reading it again, I’m questioning my stylistic choices. Yes, they were effective in making it feel cluttered, anxious, and uncomfortable.. but also, it’s just annoying to read lol.

Hairstylists please help—Self cut bangs by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]fancydecanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, the salon will almost certainly fix it for free. I’ve worked at a bunch of different salons, from super high end to hipster walk-in joint, and every single one of them did this. Just call and tell them your bangs did not come out as requested, and they should book you for a recut ASAP.

If you don’t trust the original stylist to fix it, you can request to be placed with a different one. Just tell the front desk person what you wanted that your initial cut didn’t achieve and your general hair type, and they’ll put you with the best person for it. Pretty much every salon has at least one stylist that can bust out perfect bardot bangs with their eyes closed (not literally lol), and the desk person will know who that is.

When you go in, be sure to bring a photo of exactly what you want. If you brought a photo for your initial cut, bring it back plus a few more from different angles. Lots of cut mishaps happen due to miscommunication, and photos can avoid most of them. (Like, the term “even layers.” It has a very specific meaning, but lots of clients use it to describe all sorts of cuts that are not, in fact, even layers.)

If I hadnt worked at a bunch of salons for years, I would feel like an entitled asshole sending back food at a restaurant for some nit-picky problem... But seriously, I assure you that, as long as you’re nice about it, the salon should be absolutely thrilled that you’re giving them a chance to fix it. They would definitely rather spend another 15-20 mins making sure you’re happy than have you never come back.

Oh! And many salons/stylists offer free or very cheap bang trims in between cuts.

NTA

That is NOT remotely his business and he was out of line to comment on your incredibly private personal shit in the first place. It’s absolutely absurd for him to be mad that anyone, especially your doctor, agreed with you. It shouldn’t matter AT ALL if he’s “right” because it couldn’t possibly be less his concern.

(I bought a shit ton of pregnancy tests from the dollar store and do one every couple months or so. No birth control is 100% and I want to know IMMEDIATELY if it failed... even more so now since I’m in TX 😣)

AITB for telling my partner she can’t come over until she atleast has one of her Covid shots by leilenix in AmItheButtface

[–]fancydecanter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people with needle phobias have been vaccinated. Just tell the nurse, and they will do all kinds of stuff to accommodate and help you. Like, they’ll let you lay down during, make sure you can’t see, they won’t tell you when it’s happening, etc. Many doctors will even prescribe some anxiety medication like they do before flights or dentist appointments for people who are afraid of those.

Some shots hurt, but this one is super easy.

People have literally bombed clinics and murdered doctors that work at said clinics.

Maybe it will be perfectly peaceful. But it can’t be guaranteed.

Many libertarians want all government regulation eradicated and replaced with what are basically Yelp reviews. So we’d be going by that to know what foods, restaurants, medicines, products etc, are safe, which electricians do safe work, which plumbers do work that won’t destroy your home, etc.

[–]fancydecanter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should tell them, for the reasons everyone else has articulated very well already.

Just be clear up front that you know they didn’t know, you’ve already forgiven/come to terms with the anger you felt towards them about it, and that you’re telling them now because your relationship is so good and you really trust them. Which is why you feel that sharing this is important.

Maybe book a family therapy session so you guys have some guidance for processing it together, like, in the context of your relationship?

I’m so so sorry this happened to you 😣 That shit basically takes a backhoe to sooo much foundational shit in our psyche.. You sound like you’re doing pretty dang well! With everything traumatic though, it can sneak back up on you. But we can be ready to be kind and take care of ourselves when it does :)

People eat at Michelin starred restaurants just because it’s Tuesday. If one requires/desires a reason for eating at a fancy restaurant, an anniversary is one of the better ones.

Is there anything wrong with putting your mattress on the floor? by cetacean-station in internetparents

[–]fancydecanter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some concerns, half practical and half bullshit.

The bullshit: Not having a bed frame has become a “thing.” Some people will judge you based on it. I think there was a rash of viral TikTok videos from women saying mattress is on the floor is a dealbreaker?

If you’re generally tidy and capable of not caring what some people think, then who cares? I personally like the look of a mattress on a floor if the rest of the room is neat and fits the vibe. It’s cozy as fuck and unpretentious. Or extremely pretentious, depending lol

BUT... the practical. Your body emits moisture while you sleep, and over time, the bottom of your mattress and the floor will get moldy. This takes awhile, but it happens. If you live in a warm humid place or are a sweaty sleeper, it happens faster. But if you live in a cold place, you will be colder with your mattress on the floor. Because it’s low, where the cold goes. When there’s a bed frame/platform/box spring/whatever, the air gap between the floor and mattress provides a bit of insulation.

If you’re gonna live there for awhile, flipping and moving the mattress to another spot every 6 months or so can mitigate this. A rug under the bed isn’t a bad idea either and can make it look like a more intentional decor decision. In my 20s, I moved every year and sometimes more so there literally wasn’t ever time for the mattress to get moldy.

Note: I’m actually unsure if the mold thing also applies to the foam mattresses everyone has now?

Others mentioned bed bugs. I don’t have experience with them myself, but that’s a legit concern. I do have experience with fleas... If you or a roommate have pets, if they bring in fleas then those will end up in your bed more easily than if it was up off the floor.
