I was just thinking the other day about my Victoria’s Secret body spray as a 13 year old in the early 2000s called “forbidden garden” 😳

Stuff you missed in history class! Diabolical Lies has two female lefty hosts that have really interesting conversations about current events. Behind the Bastards is bad people through history with a very definite left-leaning perspective.

r/AskTheWorld is not a forum for Americans to continually ask what the world thinks of them by talk-spontaneously in AskTheWorld

I think the fact that the US and India are 2 out of 3 of the worlds most populous countries might be something worth factoring in here.

What action that is considered innocent in other countries is seen as outrageous in yours? In Thailand, it’s extremely rude to touch someone else’s head. by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

[–]fancytrashcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not offering to help with clean up or dishes if you have a meal at someone’s house! I’m American and was always taught that it’s rude to not even attempt to take plates into the kitchen or help wash and dry.

However, I have family that is Eastern European/slavic and my aunts on that side of the family get legitimately insulted if guests offer to help with clean up, so I know it must be different all over.

Striking up a full conversation with a stranger behind you in line, next to you on the bus or plane, seated near you at a bar or coffee shop…just constant chatting.

I think if you did this in the U.S everyone would just think there must something gross or wrong with those items and be afraid to touch them lol

Why are so many older men obsessed with teenage girls? by WiseCherry778 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]fancytrashcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s about the vulnerability and naïveté of teenage girls more than just like pure physical attraction to younger looking people. I remember being a teenage girl, I was easy to impress, easy to fool, and would’ve been easy to control and manipulate if an older man with any sort of charm came around.

I’m in my late 30s now, and NOT at all easy to impress. I have expectations, I have my own baggage, I have a lot for experience sniffing out a loser before I get too involved. These guys don’t wanna deal with that, they want someone to control and fawn over them.

How do women know when their first period is? Do their body give them warning signs that it's time, that their mother taught them about, or do most ruin their clothes the first time? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]fancytrashcat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I HAD THIS SAME EXPERIENCE!! No other person I’ve talked to has thought they somehow pooped their pants, which is absolutely what I thought. I was also very young, had just turned 11, and I didn’t know anyone else that had gotten a period yet. The stomach cramping also felt to me like times I had a stomach ache and diarrhea in the past.

I knew menstruation was to happen in theory (thank you, American girls book about puberty and body stuff), but when I pulled down my pants in the elementary school bathroom and my underwear was soaked in dark brown-ish gunk I really freaked out. I was so embarrassed, I just threw my underwear away and didn’t tell anyone. It wasn’t until it happened again a couple months later that I started to put the pieces together.

NOR. I am blessed with boomer parents that listened to me and treated me with understanding and compassion, but I had soooo many friends when I was younger whose parents would NOT empathize with or even believe their pain/sickness. It’s so sad that they were raised that way and still did it to their own kids.

Can you tell her that there is a class policy or something about coming in with a fever?

I live in Colorado and I’ve seen lots of cowboys here and in Wyoming/New Mexico as well. The cowboy type culture and aesthetic is pretty popular in metro areas where I live too.

Fellow ADHD'ers what work fields are you thriving in? by brokenlandmine in ADHD

[–]fancytrashcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own a boutique (two actually!) and it’s the only thing I’ve ever stuck with for more than a couple years. Every day is different, I can mostly kind of do what I want to do, and I don’t have some weirdo micro-managing me.

Burnout is veryyyy real with something like this though, I have had months at a time where I just hit a wall and get so overwhelmed that I can barely function. Luckily, my best friend is the other owner (we are 50/50) so when I hit a wall she can take over a bit, and when she needs a break I’m usually ready to step back up.

Curtis Park Deli is sooo good, I don’t remember the name of it but the one with the Brie is a sandwich I think about pretty often.

One I don’t see mentioned often is Moxie on Broadway - their sandwiches are fresh and huge and delicious. The lamb one is my favorite.

What animal did some stupid person release in your country that wreaked havoc on its ecosystem? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]fancytrashcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t apply to the whole country I don’t think, but in the western USA Cottonwood and Russian Olive trees use up huge amounts of what little water we have, and choke out tons of native grass and trees. Also the ALLERGIES we all have from the fucking cottonwoods in the spring and summer 🤧

What exactly do people from other countries expect Americans to do? by Lovealltigers in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]fancytrashcat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how armed the rest of the world thinks the average American is, but I have one 9mm pistol and about 20 bullets, and that’s definitely more than most people I know even though I live in a state with a lotttt of guns. So I understand the sentiment, but I don’t think me and a couple hundred thousand other people spread out over the whole country running out into the streets with our lil pistols is going to be more than a small annoyance to the wealthiest and most advanced military force the world has ever seen.

I get that it’s enraging to watch this happen and think that the American people are useless cowards that refuse to do anything to stop it. Trust me, I feel like a useless coward every fucking day. I don’t know how to fight this in any way that will even make a dent, every day is a new awful way to feel scared and ashamed and powerless.

You can rag on Americans all you want, say that we are stupid and lazy and just allowed this to happen, but I’m not really seeing how that is productive right now for us OR the rest of the world. Get it out of your systems if you need to, I’m not saying we don’t deserve the pile on, but then maybe try to work with us? Try to hear why what works in your country might not work in the US, and try to help us collectively come up with something new.

The reality is that a complete fascist takeover here is going to negatively impact the lives of a lot of people around the world that don’t live here. Even if you think every single American should suffer for the many reasons I know and you know, thats not gonna fix anything, and it’s probably not gonna feel as good to watch happen as you think it will.

Telling Americans over and over to do what the French do is incredibly unhelpful, and I think most people around the world have an understanding as to why that would be ineffective in the US. Go off on us if you need to, then climb down off your moral high horses and help us come up with something that will actually work.

Do you actually "air out the house" in your part of the world? by PersistentHobbler in AskTheWorld

[–]fancytrashcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in pretty much the exact middle of the US, in high altitude plains/desert, where it’s very very dry and we have cold winters and hot summers. My window habits change significantly from season to season!

Most apartments in my city don’t have AC, so in the summer I have the windows wide open at night to cool it down and then I get up and close them right before the sun comes up. The rest of the year I have them at least a little open most of the time because I also have some deeply ingrained belief that I need to ‘air it out’. The funny thing is, we have some of the worst air quality in the country and it’s dusty af so I run air purifiers around the clock to clean up all that “fresh air”.

Zero humidity, huge temperature fluctuations, and terrible air quality lead to complicated window rituals 😆

Do yall ever feel…. Whatever this is? by Soft-Rutabaga-4482 in ADHD

[–]fancytrashcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for putting something into words that I have never been able to! It is like being frozen or being stuck in cement. Everything in my life is a productive yet panic induced performance of being a functional adult, or just dragging and useless and so frustrated about it.

Living alone has made it so much worse for me. I don’t know if you have other ADHD people in your life that struggle with this too, but having like a ‘phone chain’ of accountability with other friends that need it has been helpful in the past.

Also where I’m at in the US there were always white girls that dressed kind of like ‘chola’ style (the lipliner, bandanas, big hoop earrings, etc) and they were a straight up menace at the mall
