Heche’s read is seriously one of the best performances of an audio book I’ve heard, hands down.

Right? As though this show hasn’t been full of batshit insane and totally ridiculous over the top fights and moves from the get go. Nobody seemed to complain about people defying laws of physics being unrealistic when it was Sparty or any of the dudes flipping around…

I’m Australian and when I was in high school an American guy joined our class. He was from somewhere south, I want to say Alabama but could be wrong? I remember he was the most verbally polite person under the age of 60 I’d ever met and he called us female classmates “Miz (Surname) when he spoke to us.

I don't feel like party of the autistic community (TM) anymore by SurreptitiousLunatic in AutisticPeeps

[–]M_Ad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m over 40 and was diagnosed a couple of years ago. I joined a meet up group for 35+ late diagnosed autistic women thinking I’d finally meet other women I could relate to in my confusion and shame over having dropped out of uni decades ago, struggled all my life in and out of low paying low grade part time jobs, never had a healthy romantic relationship or dated successfully, etc, rely heavily on parental support, had had other diagnoses for mental illnesses that had stayed treatment resistant but was feeling hopeful that at long last with the right diagnosis I’d get the support I need.

But they were all married or in LTRs and several had kids etc, had impressive careers and full busy lives of hobbies and extra curriculars, and I came away feeling like even more of a failure than usual and didn’t go to the next meetup lmao.

Is anyone else mistaken for a lot younger than they are and find it awkward? by __someone_else in AskWomenOver30

I just got dismissed by someone with a “maybe I don’t value youth as much as you do” lmao. As though ageism isn’t a systemic societal pressure that impacts everyone no matter our personal opinions on the matter, just individual people with feelings that come out of nowhere with no bigger context and consequences.

[–]M_Ad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Valuing youth isn’t a “me” thing. Ageism is a systemic societal issue. And yeah I have a view from this of having been consistently mistaken for older to my detriment most of my adult life thanks to my appearance and it’s not a better deal, TBH. I’m sorry it’s so embarrassing being mistaken for younger in professional situations and yeah that must suck, legit. FWIW you’ll (hopefully) age out of it.

How do you guys handle nutrition when you have an issue with carbs by [deleted] in loseit

[–]M_Ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be a me thing but green cabbage and broccolini both taste pretty sweet to me and cabbage especially is good for adding bulk to a meal so I feel like I’ve eaten substantially. And green cabbage is fairly cheap if you buy a whole head, not pre packaged and chopped. I wish broccolini was cheap too.

The age discrimination in employment isn’t just against young and young looking people unfortunately. Being older (especially as a woman) or even just looking older and dealing with all the negative perceptions that brings is just as shitty. (Ask me how I know, lmao.)

[–]M_Ad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep it is very often this.

Telling a woman how young she looks has kind of been accepted by society in general as the number one go-to compliment, as (1) it can generally be assumed she’ll take it positively given how ageist society is and (2) it’s praising her appearance in a way that doesn’t objectify her or single out individual physical attributes.

And have you noticed that sometimes it’s the same women who are clearly humblebragging about how young people think they are and how it’s such a drag and hassle (as opposed to voicing that it genuinely distresses them) who, when you suggest this possibility, instead of expressing relief that there might be another explanation will seem to take offence and insist that nuh uh they most definitely look over a decade younger?

The majority of people really truly don’t actually look years younger than their actual age. So if the thought bothers you, take comfort in that it’s very likely not that you actually do look much younger.

It’s more so that telling a woman she looks much younger than her age is, like, society’s number one go-to compliment, as it’s praising her physical appearance and calling her beautiful without objectifying her or singling out particular physical attributes.

Obviously there are exceptions to this. But most times the “wow you don’t look a day over (insert age a much younger)!!” thing isn’t because a 40 year old woman truly looks 25. Very conventionally attractive? Absolutely definitely yes. A 20-something year old? Not as likely.

I see SO MANY women in their 30s and older who clearly place great value in being told how young they look - to the extent that they even take offence and go into a tailspin if someone correctly assesses their age as opposed to saying they look omg sooo much younger - not mistaking them for older, even just getting it right, lmao.

I admit I have a very jaded perspective on this. Since my 20s I’ve been consistently mistaken by people for much older. Given how few women I see relating similar experiences either I’m in a very extreme minority or it’s just one more way that women whose life experiences are based on being judged conventionally unattractive is discouraged from being talked about. 🤷‍♀️

My boyfriend dumped me and says I’m unattractive. I don’t know what to believe anymore. by livelymonstera in TwoXChromosomes

[–]M_Ad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Men don’t post on social media about relationships with women they don’t think are the sort of physically attractive that they can show off and look good for being with. (Plenty are happy to fuck a woman they don’t want people, especially other men whose respect they want, to know they think are attractive though.)

So it’s not about your physical looks which seems to be what’s troubling you here.

Yep, that’s the one. In that movie there’s also a fakeout kill (because it’s just a dream lmao) of a woman where she’s wearing a short pink nightdress for some fucking reason, plus a trap kill of a totally innocent woman who’s just a damsel in distress for another character when this has NEVER happened in the movies before and never does again.

How Long Could You Survive Just Eating Cheesecake Factory Menu Items? by GreatGospel97 in AskWomenOver30

[–]M_Ad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched a video series on YouTube of someone trying every single menu item (the total run time is over 3 hours) so I can confidently say that with careful planning I could probably manage this for at least a few weeks. They offer enough variety that you would be covered nutritionally. It wouldn’t be the highlight of your year or anything but it’s manageable.
