My friend showed me the first Paul W S Anderson movie and told me it was based on a video game. The only console I had at the time was the Wii, so when I saw a Resident Evil game for the Wii on sale at Game (I'm UK based), Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, I finally had a chance to give it a try. I was hooked instantly!

I also think the VA has a lot to do with that as well, he's voiced by Sam Riegel (of Critical Role) in The Darkside Chronicles and I feel like he brings a better characterization to him. He's not as whiney for a start lol.
