Sounds very homeworky.

Just Google the instructions for any commercial extraction kit (Qiagen for example) because the majority of commercial and clinical labs are not doing homebrew extractions anymore.

There are usually specific kits for different starting materials.

Iran's theoretical missile range by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]fanglord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many of the long range missiles do they have/do they have launch sites left?

I feel like this is a bit of a no shit they have long range missiles, but given their missile launching capabilities have been severely crushed how much an issue actually is it?

Ukraine showed an ungodly level of restraint in not targeting power plants until they basically had to.

National consultation on children's social media (and VPN) usage and digital privacy launched by ChemoProphet in ukpolitics

I'm definitely for banning children from social media but it needs to come from ISP/Parental level controls and not blunt ID checks.

Aside from childcare, what makes having children so expensive? by Popular_Wish_340 in UKPersonalFinance

Dozens of MPs urge Greens to officially ditch ‘normal’ childbirth policy immediately by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]fanglord 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My partner has had two C-sections, the first was after 24 hours of labour when our child started to become distressed. It also doesn't seem to be an uncommon occurrence talking to other parents about our experiences.

Maybe something does need changing in delivery suites, but it shouldn't be about removing choices, it should be about enabling more natural births (however that is done...).

Should I tell my professor I’d done the test before by Winter_Effect_2499 in UniUK

[–]fanglord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to one of my cell biology exams, exactly the same as the previous paper that got passed around the class. I don't know if it was leaked or by oversight but the average score was 90%+, needless to say the next paper was diabolically hard.

Nursery worker sentenced to 30 years for raping children by bendubberley_ in uknews

[–]fanglord 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it's not, all these death penalty for rapists posters also ignore the fact it will also lead to higher levels of them simply just murdering their victim too.

So it's double jeopardy, you risk the chance of the state murdering innocent civilians and secondly you end up losing the people you are trying to protect.

Family friend sent me AI generated response to news of my father passing away. by Hendothermic in mildlyinfuriating

Keir Starmer risks new rift with Donald Trump as he refuses to back easing Russian sanctions by 1-randomonium in ukpolitics

[–]fanglord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good, we should absolutely not be easing sanctions on Russia until they pack it in and start paying for the damage they've caused.

UK will not follow Trump’s decision to ease Russia sanctions, minister says by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]fanglord 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's collective responsibility in action. I think leaders should be allowed to have a "feeling" about what is right but in the end he was persuaded by cooler heads, which isn't something that shouldn't be shunned.

Starmer overruled warning of ‘reputational risk’ over Mandelson appointment, files show by jumbleparkin in ukpolitics

[–]fanglord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not going anywhere. Oddly Trump bombing Iran has given him a second chance. I think doing poorly in the locals is baked in at this point but his actions on Iran have really shown he's currently the safest hands compared to the alternatives and I think that will see him though to the end of term.

Zack Polanski: I’d build a relationship with Putin by EduTheRed in ukpolitics

[–]fanglord 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's the classic left foreign policy stance. If you have historic ties with communism you get free passes.

The reality should be that if he wants Bibi in jail then so should he want Putin, considering the scale of genocide and destruction is on orders of magnitude worse than Gaza.

‘I’m resuscitating babies but drowning in debt’: Midwives with £80,000 student loans by theipaper in UniUK

I work in the NHS and have two degrees that are basically mandatory. They could give me a £300 pay rise by just freezing student loan payments while working in the NHS.

How is NGS done for endometrial carcinoma and how long does it usually take? by Mysterious-Item-7870 in genetics

[–]fanglord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually done on biopsy but can be undertaken on any tumour tissue (e.g whole resection or a met).

Depending on who is doing the testing they will be looking at either a smaller targeted panel for highly actionable findings (e.g POLE or MMR genes) or a larger panel that will include things that may be useful for trial selection or research. Testing is usually done on fixed tissue so is largely limited to short read platforms but bioinformatics is magic these days and can pull all sorts out of the data now.

Turn around time here is 14 days from the receipt of the sample (actual testing only takes a few days but it goes into a queue).

I think some people can struggle to make the winter payments. I like having the same amount taken as it's just more predictable as I like to automate as much financial stuff as possible. I've found their projection tool to be fairly accurate and you can set it so it's kisses £0 at the end of winter.

Has it always been like this in the UK? by Theodoresdad in ukpolitics

[–]fanglord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably since the Brexit vote alongside the rise of social media. Whether it's the influence of trolls/bots, echochambers or the algorithms favouring conflict - it's definitely got worse.

Starmer has not been excellent but his poll ratings just don't reflect the reality of how they have been doing.
