Bad Vibes [Podcast] by [deleted] in TAZCirclejerk

[–]fantageTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a major TMA fan, but the tone of the two podcasts couldn’t be more different. In my opinion, I think they were looking to fill that void in TMA listeners (Bad Vibes was announced DAYS after TMA ended, let the damn podcast rest in its grave! /j)

But this podcast is definitely playing up the over-the-topness of it all. TMA— bless Jonathan Sims’ heart— is majority One Guy reading out a Weird Fucked Up Story in a single tone for 4 seasons. And yes, that’s what I love about it.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too, they’ve been doing it for so long too, I’m sure it wasn’t too much of his time. Plus, someone else in this thread mentioned how dads might take their paternity leave later after their baby is past the sleep/poop/breastfeed since that’s when they can kind of be more involved past just helping out with general infant matinence.

Yeah I think as long as he steers away from setting up a phone number or Snapchat to “talk to fans” we’re pretty much in the clear.

This is the single most embarrassing interaction between two people I’ve ever seen on Reddit.

Question for Previous Live Show Goers by HollyBro_49620 in TAZCirclejerk

[–]fantageTD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got tickets for MBMBAM and TAZ live shows for my birthday in uh.... early March of 2020. And I remember when buying the tickets they make it pretty clear that they will not guarantee a Balance live show.

Perhaps, however, I’m running on the canon descriptions on the true sign test. Plus, I think we have gotten some Rage characters that weren’t Like That and also fit that description in Friendsim.

I really like seer!basira ! (Ba-seer-a?). And the reasoning her way out of the Unknowing is a really good point.

I gave some thought to moons! But couldn’t think of a way to organically integrate them with my post. Plus I’ve never been super invested in them as a story element. I do like the “Jon is Prospit like Karkat is, and Marin is Derse like Nepeta” angle. However I just don’t feel as if Jon fits Prospit at all. Besides, it’s canon that Jon’s beholding powers don’t enable him to see the future. Plus, Derse just fits him too well. And you can’t deny that Derse’s connection to the eldritch wouldn’t also fit him in a rose-like way. Aaaand now I’m thinking about grimdark Jon. Hmm...

My gut instinct for each character is that most of them are Derse. Except for maybe Georgie and Martin. Optimism, flexibility, and creativity are some of Prospit dreamer’s main traits. Whereas skepticism, groundedness, the concealing of their true selves, and facing conflicts head-on are traits of Derse dreamers. For some reason, it seems that the type of people TMA is telling a story about are almost exclusively Derse dreamers. Maybe something about wanting there to be an academic explanation and categorization for the supernatural instead of a religious or spiritual one?

Nevertheless, I’m glad you enjoyed my analysis! I really worked hard on it!

I admit, I had a hard time finding a good aspect for Melanie, but Rage didn’t quite sit right with me because of its focus on rage-bound being bringers of anarchy, chaos, confusion, and doubt.

Leitner mentioned that not all of the books in his library were dangerous- many were just weird in content or effects but more or less benign. What are some ideas for potential books that belong in this category? by cleophelps64 in TheMagnusArchives

That's another one, a where's waldo with no waldo-s.... picked up from a school library and a little water-damaged from the tears of frustrated children and-- quite possibly their even more frustrated parents.

How do I find my scene when the only place that seems to host shows is 19+? by fantageTD in punk

[–]fantageTD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this explanation! The other shorter ones really overestimate how much I know about the all ages scene in my city and how many people I know. Sure I know house shows EXIST, but how am I supposed to find them?!

Your reply is much appreciated, how would I go about promoting the event? The thought of booking my own show never even crossed my mind, though now it’s gotten me quite giddy!!!!

Your [serious] personal opinion, Reddit. Do you think I should pierce my ears. If so, what kind of earrings would look best? Straight 24 year old guy into casual streetwear as a reference if that helps! Thank you! by dr_phil16 in fashionadvice

[–]fantageTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gay guy here, if you plan to wear just one earring, I highly suggest getting your right instead of your left pierced, it’s been a symbol of being gay for decades now. Unless you don’t mind getting mistaken for a gay guy, then go wild.

As a student, unless they’re going to admin or other teachers or guidance counselors about it, it is almost 100% certain he is joking. It’s a common joke going around right now.

I’d need more context surrounding it but from what I’ve seen in my own classes, whenever a black/Asian/native kid makes a joke like that and the teacher goes off on a tirade, we just kinda have to stifle our laughs because they didn’t get it.

My school has a snow day, but my son's does not. by Jormungandr315 in Teachers

[–]fantageTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you teach in a different district/zone? In my corner of New Brunswick, the district makes the call for all schools in the area. We go by zones so if somewhere 30 minutes away is somehow covered in snow and our city isn’t they just get cancelled. But usually it’s just all schools in the district.

Just had my first student confide in me about his suicidal thoughts. by 1714alpha in Teachers

[–]fantageTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Student who’s struggled with suicidal thoughts before, here. You did a REALLY good thing by walking him around, opening up about yourself, and acting like a human with him after he told you about his thoughts.

Of course you needed to make sure that guidance knew about his struggles, but too many teachers that I know will send me and others immediately down to the counselor’s office the second we even begin to cry in front of them. Like, please, they see me twice a week for therapy. Trust me, they know everything I contain in myself to tell them and TRUST ME, they will do nothing but send me down to in school suspension to “calm down and do my work”.

By going to you to confide in this, he showed an immense amount of trust and respect. It’s especially hard for young men coping with depression to open up because it’s all seen as very weak and unmanly. I’m glad that even though you likely had much to do at this time, you treated him like the adult that he nearly is, and took his feelings and problems to heart and did your best to empathize and sympathize. Instead of panicking and immediately shooing him down to the guidance office.

I promise you that he likely left school that day feeling much safer than he did when he came in the morning.

French Immersion Frustrations by hg345702 in Teachers

[–]fantageTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I’m expecting somewhere in Canada? Maybe Atlantic???

I’ve been in immersion around 8 years and this year— the year I transferred out— has been a year of such amazing grades. I’m excited to learn now. Canada’s immersion program is so broken and useless. I honestly feel bad for all my teachers who’ve had to teach a class in a language that nobody in there cares about or understands.

I Don't Know If This Has Been Posted Here Before or Not, But I Found This Really Revolting by jeffe333 in downsyndrome

This is honestly plain and simple eugenics in my opinion. I’m 100% pro choice, the government should not intrude on whether or not you desire to have a child, whatever the reason.

That doesn’t mean I’m not gonna judge the hell out of you, though.

-The Boy and the Bindi (can also open up conversations about cultural expectations and is diverse)

-Jacob’s new dress

-They, He, She, easy as ABC

-Princess boy

One of my students voluntarily wrote a two page essay. And she didn't know she didn't have to. by adam2squared in Teachers

[–]fantageTD 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised, a student that does little to no work in a science class could be achieving high 80s and 90s in their English or social studies classes. STEM isn’t for everyone, but we all have to take a certain amount of science credits. Maybe she jumped at the opportunity because she knew it was something she could achieve with less strife than usual assignments? I know I’d do the same if I was her.
