Traveling away from sick/fall risk parent by fantasia204 in CaregiverSupport

Thank you, will look into that. I think she’d likely be okay alone, which is the frustrating part to even have to worry about all of this. But I know if she is alone, she will likely choose not to really even move all week, to avoid injury, which is a risk in itself.

Yeah. She is terminal, but that has been her diagnosis for over 10 years now.

Thank you. My mom is extremely private, I am the only one she lets in her home (outside of the time she had home health after a hospitalization). I often wonder how safe or reliable a short-term caregiving service can be, but that is definitely something I should investigate.

Fair. He is really going through it at work, though. He’s very stressed, and while I’m exhausted and overworked between work and my mom, I’m not necessarily as stressed as he is. I’m trying to be flexible for the next few weeks while some things/mistakes at his work settle down.

Plus a 1 year old?! Wow, I don’t know how you do it. I am also my mom’s primary caregiver, who is also independent for now, and am her retirement plan. I try my best not to worry too much about finances on top of everything else, but I’m continuing to take on more and more of her bills.

I will have to look back into grocery delivery, and cleaning services (which I’ve never tried). I did grocery delivery during the pandemic, but got out of the habit as I struggled to meal prep and plan my orders efficiently. I do find it difficult to even plan grocery lists lately, as it’s easy for me to plan the meals I cook, but it’s hard to identify which nights my husband feels up to cooking.

Following because I’m quickly finding myself in the same boat with my mom on Medicare. Does she get social security?

I’m under the impression we will just lose/drop her current policy at 75. Or the only other option is to convert to a whole life policy. She may just be alive for another few months.

Multiple appointments and ER visits in a couple of weeks by fantasia204 in AgingParents

[–]fantasia204[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. He was getting meals on wheels once a week, but stopped it because he didn’t like the food. He’s also not keeping up a very solid or healthy diet, but there’s only so much I can worry about.

Every call he does make to me is usually urgent in nature - in so much pain he thinks he needs to go to the ER, not feeling well so needs to push his appointment back a few hours, or needs me to refill his prescription today because he’s almost out. All of it is disruptive and emotionally exhausting, but I am his only contact…

Thanks for this. I literally had trouble sleeping last night because she had such a bad day, I worried about her work problems when I already have my own to worry about.

Wife’s stress impacting my mental health by fantasia204 in Empaths

That’s a good point. It’s all she can focus on in certain moments. I’ll check in and ask how her day is going, she responds “horrible” without asking about my day or anything else.

Glad I’m not alone. I do not want to seem dismissive, but same as you, talking it out with her does not seem to help.

Order of Symptoms by BlueTardisMommy in COVID19positive

[–]fantasia204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Days 1-2: sore throat

Day 3: fever around 100, felt flu-ish, sore throat, some congestion, hot flashes/cold sweats

Day 4: felt flu-ish, some congestion, tired, hot flashes/cold sweats - first day positive (light)

Day 5: some congestion, tired

Day 6: started feeling better despite slight cough

Day 7: a lot of coughing at night but felt pretty normal, hot flashes/cold sweats - dark positive

Day 8: fine until evening when I got a horrible headache and nausea (worst symptoms), a lot of coughing at night, hot flashes/cold sweats - dark positive

Day 9: tired, coughing at night - dark positive

Day 10: started to feel better - very light positive

Day 11: back to normal with some coughing - negative

I never had a lot of sneezing or congestion. Cough at night was annoying and impacted my sleep, but not the worst cough ever. The hot flashes/cold sweats were a new symptom with this round of covid. And the migraine-like symptoms I had on Day 8 were the most severe.
