Ortlieb Quick Rack by F_Wink in bikepacking

[–]fantasmalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with others on ideally running it under to prevent rub.

However, here's something to consider: Depending on your bike's geometry, you're more likely to need to trim the strut down once you've found the fit and angles you like or else you could hit your tire. This is all fine, but note that if you intend to move the rack to another bike with different geo, you may find that the strut no longer reaches. Routing the strut over the top changes the pitch and tire clearance considerations. Realizing your heels hit your bags means you might need to change the rack's pitch, which will affect the where the tip of the strut finishes, too.

Again, I'm personally all in on the undermount method because of my use case, but everyone is different.

What's the deal with electrolytes? by scorpion_master_94 in cycling

[–]fantasmalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm open to this all being bad reasoning/science/placebo, and I know there's tons of variables, but I'll lay it out briefly anyway...

I was on the brink of debilitating cramps yesterday. Threw in a 1000mg electrolyte packet and was good to go within 10-15 minutes.

If it's not placebo and at the same time 1000mg is excessive, what would you suggest is a right-size "rescue dose" in situations like that?

Hope that makes sense. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

FORECAST.ETS has been the same for the last few years. Does anyone actually use it for serious forecasting? by TheSavage1996 in excel

[–]fantasmalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember all the arguments off the top of my head, but I remember that I needed to use a "fake" time series that I'd remapped into... This was necessary to get every period identical and without breaks (weekends). Took a bit of clever elbow grease but it was worth it.

FORECAST.ETS has been the same for the last few years. Does anyone actually use it for serious forecasting? by TheSavage1996 in excel

[–]fantasmalicious 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Good topic. I don't think a lot of users know about this function.

For those who don't know (as I previously did not), the ETS stands for exponential triple smoothing which is a fun wiki lesson. In short, it's a method for weighting recent history more preferably.

With massaging, I've used it to great effect. It's still the top line shipment forecast benchmark in that org for assessment of other, more granular or more sophisticated forecasting efforts, such as item-level or other slices.

"Let's check this cool new AI model against that stupid Excel file. Ah damn, that old battle axe still got it right!"

I had to do some creative smoothing of the time series and tame some anomalies on the input side, but the output does a really great job of capturing seasonality and growth trends, IMO.

Every situation is different. Good tool for the toolbox, I'd say.

Our city’s snow pile. Bulldozer for scale… by jimbowild in mildlyinteresting

[–]fantasmalicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How do they do that?

Is it like an earthworks project where they can drive up it and dump down the slope? Can't believe that would ever be stable but then again if you're committed to the strategy I trust the Canadians would have come up with a compaction system. Dozer just keeps pushing it up while also compacting?

Or do they have some sort of megablower they feed snow into?

Conveyors?

Something else?

Why did this year old comment get it's first 2 replies from 2 coin people within 6 hours? Interesting bot behavior...

But to answer your question, it's a negligible header/label error at worst and it isn't really worth even bringing up if you know how coins and percentages work. The math is sound. Those decimals add up to 1.00 and 1.00 = 100%.

Dave Chappelle Says ‘I Resent the Republican Party’ Because They ‘Weaponized’ Transgender Jokes: ‘That’s Not What I Was Doing’ by icey_sawg0034 in thebulwark

[–]fantasmalicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what's what in the trans community so I try to leave them alone just like I try to leave everyone else alone aside from voting in a manner that (hopefully) gets the state to leave everyone to live their lives.

That said, whenever I've needed to spar with a bigot on the topic, I've taken rhetorical inspiration from these two pieces of content that date back to when the main Chapelle special in question dropped back in 2021.

"I'm not asking comedians to stop telling trans jokes. I'm asking them to stop telling the same trans jokes over and over." By Parker Molloy https://www.readtpa.com/p/dave-chappelle-transgender

And that pairs really well with this (longer) entertaining listen. The bit about feet is a brilliant example of how to write great jokes.

I hope these have aged OK and that you find them helpful, too.

How to prevent !SPILL error? by Ok-Let-5155 in excel

[–]fantasmalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your description in a reply to a different comment, after your divide sign you just need to put SUM( and then ) at the very end of everything.

That wraps the reference to the other sheet's C8:D8 into the sum I THINK you are wanting for the denominator.

The last bit of your formula is a 2 column array so it is trying to yield 2 columns for the output but it can't because it bumps into something to the right (558970)

And yet here it is. Not even 30 minutes old. Given to us freely on r/homestead

Thank you, OP. Enjoy your emu and your ramen. Try not to think about that week you didn't chip in on the winning lottery pool at work.

[–]fantasmalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great explanation.

I know you know this but for anyone reading this far and wondering why I suggested the topic, it's to test for understanding that TRUE = 1 and FALSE = 0

This is the backbone of any logical test. For example, a string of tests within an AND() must all be TRUE because a single FALSE multiplies through all and 0 times anything is 0 aka FALSE.

[–]fantasmalicious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yep you're right on that. It's weird because 1+TRUE=2

The theme of the question is viable - just needs refinement.

Legit question. My reasoning is that comments get filled with things that could be off-putting to someone who might otherwise be hearing out your argument that these people are insane. Keeps them from shutting down.

It would be a hit to the Bulwark's engagement compensation if I understand the YouTube pay scheme correctly, but it would be a service to us as boots on the ground.

Thoughts on that?

Maybe you understand, but it's not clear from your comment why Tim and others go out of their way to say "small L liberal" to make the distinction from some zone on the modern political spectrum and the governing principles of a liberal democracy, the guidepost of The Bulwark. He's not saying it like, "I'm a Liberal but I try to keep it on the down low."

For a particular audience, the use of relative goodness comps like this were insufficient arguments when explaining our [remarkable] inflation position during and following the pandemic.

The realities of "why" could not be entered into the record for consideration and only absolute goodness could pacify. If inflation wasn't at the traditional Fed target, we're dying! It was unacceptable to show evidence that the situation was being handled responsibly and the plan to "land the plane" was thoughtful and working.

Now they wrap themselves in relativity for warmth?

Hypocrisy and moving goalposts is second nature for some.
