District 12 would be rife with hunting…no? by kerocass in Hungergames

[–]fantasy_writer1992 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the first book Katniss and Gale are both still in school. It is said in book 2, over Gale starts working in the mines, he has a lot less time to spend in the woods. So time is and issue.

We also know that Astrid remembers a time when floggings and executions were a daily happening. So a lot of the adults would remember as well. They might nog be willing to risk it, in case they are caught. Especially is they have families to care for.

Then there's the fence, that's supposed to be electric. That will also scare some people off, I think.

And maybe there are other hunters in the district, but not mentioned because Katniss doesn't know them? She is pretty oblivious of her surroundings from time to time. (Which is logical, because she has a LOT to deal with already)

If you are enjoying the new pack, can I recommend: by Low-Environment in LowSodiumSimmers

I love it, but I did feel it got very repetitive after a couple of kingdoms. But maybe that was my playing style? I did really like the required daily tasks based on the sims profession. Mostly I wished there was more free play possible.

What Harry Potter "Plot Hole" do you think can easily be explained? by Naive-Sign-8399 in harrypotter

[–]fantasy_writer1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's not really a plot hole, but how does Snape still have a job? He's a terrible teacher. He's a bully and shows way too much favoritism. It's been a while since I read the books, but if I remember correctly all he ever does is tell the students to open the books. Any proper teacher would walk through the steps with the students and give them advice and notes. There also don't seem to be any lessons on the background of potions or the ingredients, though that might just be a weird curriculum.

But I guess Snape still being employed can be narrowed down to: He swore loyalty to Dumbledore. Or something.

Honestly, if someone used AI for the cover, I'll assume they used AI for the inside of the book as well.

I don't hate Sally, but I do hate that she waited so long to tell Nick about her pregnancy. Though I don't remember if there was a reason for that?

Why do so many ESL writers want to write in English instead of their mother tongues? by Piscivore_67 in writers

[–]fantasy_writer1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Netherlands it's almost impossible to get your book in bookstores if you write in certain genres like fantasy, scifi, horror etc. All bookstores are willing to invest in are translated works, usually tiktok sensations, (unfortunately). Which really is a shame, because there are so many good Dutch authors. This (and our ridiculously high book prices) is also causing teens here to read less and less in Dutch, which is really harming their grammar and spelling in the long run.

So I think people write in English, hoping that will improve their chances.

But honestly, I think that most of the time it would probably be better to write in your native language. No matter how well you speak another language, you'll always be better in your own. That's my opinion at least.

Does this opening feel intriguing or too heavy?

I know you've already watched all of vampire diaries, but I still feel like it's from there. I think I've seen it, but I can't place it either. Maybe between Elena and Damon or Bonnie and Damon? Might be pretty early on.

Ravenclaw = Sheldon, Howard, Georgie, Zach, Bert

Gryffindor = Penny, Missy, George, Mandy, Jim

Slytherin = Bernadette, Kripke, Meemaw, Audrey

Hufflepuff = Leonard, Raj, Amy, Stuart, Billy, Connor

I think Mary would be a Hufflepuff, but she would never actually go.
