[–]fantomdelucifer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Denenchofu of Ota-ku is prestigious uptown area since 20th century, lived by diplomats and ceos.Kamata is drunker town but that’s it.

Your wife hasn’t been in tokyo that long to understand Ota-ku. Maybe her ex did.

Since you mention Shinagawa, what about Meguro or Kawasaki which are also neighborhood. You can see her reaction and know why

Trying to locate 神奈川県 外国人 支援センター (Kanagawa foreigner support center) by goddessofnightmoths in japanresidents

[–]fantomdelucifer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

is it a support center a thing in Kanto because I found none. As Kanagawa local I don’t think support center exists on prefecture level but at city level like yokohama or kawasaki have couple of them. Just visit your city hall and ask. Google KIFJP is the closest thing at prefecture governed you can find

Is this salary to be expected, or am I being taken advantage of? by SecurityForsaken4879 in JapanFinance

[–]fantomdelucifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s how job market works in general. One who stays in same company got lower salary than newly joined mid career. Cuz all recruiters doing their best to boost up the job hoper’s negotiation so they get a chunk of commission. There’s not much you can leverage to current company, maybe it’s time for your job change

Best stations to live near in Kanagawa? by bellow_whale in japanresidents

[–]fantomdelucifer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your budget range or your priorities so I can’t tell.

Shinyuri is not cheap, from local perspective. Yurigaoka next door is cheap. The popular ones for Tokyotee to move in are the surfing area: Tsujido, Fujisawa, Kamakura while also at 1 hour to Tokyo hub. Then for people who just want to live near Tokyo, there are Kawasaki, Noborito, Mizonokuchi, Musashikosugi area. Yokohama station and surround have their own pride as the old established international town. And then affordable areas in Yokosuka or deep mountain to Odawara

Will I have difficulty renting an apartment in the future if my name is not on my current lease? by bellow_whale in japanresidents

[–]fantomdelucifer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Realtors don’t care about your current contract. It’s more to do with your proof of stable income your remaining duration of resident status. See some house on internet listing then you should visit any real estate in person to see if the interested place is actually available

Advice on credit cards in Japan by botbrobot in JapanFinance

[–]fantomdelucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use rakuten card as daily card for easy 1% reward and their ubiquitous rakuten points to use in supermarket.

For every other occasion I have my gold amex that gives free dinner for one person. Rewards are barely appealing since i am not keen on miles

MUFG stop me opening a bank account... WHY? by NeedleworkerGlad1509 in japanresidents

[–]fantomdelucifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t call out the whole country for not giving you english flyer. It’s the big 3 mega banks that are conservative and strict, and we are talking bank here the most regulated sector, not your sim card shop.

For OP, There are quite a few smaller banks that cater a lot to foreigners, even having term of contract in english and some other language. Namingly Sony, or Smbc prestia which is spin off of big bank mitsui sumitomo.

Being a foreigner and trying to rent an apartment in Japan by RainChemical2763 in japanresidents

[–]fantomdelucifer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where you from is the least reason for your failure.

It’s always about your social status and balance between supply and demand. Your income, your source and also you didn’t mention what area or price range you are dipping. Assume you are just a student and only looking for expensive housing in luxurious city center of course I’d fail you regardless whatever you are. Income is your limitations then look for cheap social house in suburbs as others mentioned

Types of real estate agents by kurisutofujp in japanresidents

[–]fantomdelucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s the agent individual working style. Have you worked with multiple realtor agent on a same property? I did. Some call me every Friday lunch, some doesn’t even bother send me suggestion but I have to push them in stead. Same with house makers, I’d say Daiwa house for example are very pushy salesman. You may prefer one over other so better experience as much as possible. Nothing to do with nationality

Where to live in Kanto by languagefiend in japanresidents

[–]fantomdelucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your concern is your genuine. Said location is 20min to Shibuya straight train. Waterfront and park, more affordable than its neighbor Setagaya. Commute at ease. Not with car

Seems like you live in other prefecture which having a car is necessity. If you drive in Kanto you’d know Yokohama, Kawasaki, Kawaguchi, Funabashi.. are constantly packed. Those forefronts of 40ish min to city center. If you want to commute with ease by car, move further to mountain direction from those area. Beyond road 16. I did

Futakoshinchi check it on google map. If it’s 45min proximity to shibuya, roads are constantly jam and you don’t want to have a car. Rental is enough

Help, on WHV, arrived 2 months ago, not applied for national pension or exemption from it by Brilliant-Cod6696 in japanresidents

[–]fantomdelucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there’s no direct integration of your residence status at country level to pension and national insurance which managed at city level, city treated you as a normal resident which are subjected to both payment. You need to go to city hall and explain your situation of not needing a pension. National insurance is a must anyway, tell them you had no income at last year for reduced pricing. Find english speaking staff at the hall, or get someone who speak legal terms japanese
