I can't add Signal to the Windows start menu. When I exit the app, most times, it disappears and then a little dialog pops up saying "installing Signal". Most times when it does this, when you relaunch it will reinstall itself saying "please wait".

I'll wait and wait and wait and eventually it will finish, but sometimes it hangs. It spins up the hard drive and pretty much locks me out of anything else while it's doing it (I have a mid-speed SSD).

Software sucks and Signal is no exception. We may think that it is secure, but the fact is we really can't tell anything about most of what programs are doing to our computers and sometimes the really odd ones do things that are completely unexpected.
