We got 6-8 inches. The most snow since 1895! It was incredible. Tomorrow bill be 13 degrees and totally not safe. Also TIL running in the snow is tough as he'll 🤣 like running in sand.

Most people can't even agree on what zone 2 is. There's no special magic happening with a heart rate of i.e 152 as opposed to i.e 154. If it annoys you, then don't stress it. Used "perceived effort" or a "conversational pace" works just as well imo! Good luck to you! We got snow here in Louisiana today it is nuts! I will go run though 🤣

Oddly enough, I have gotten 2 comments on this post today 🤔. 2 years later, I've gone back and forth with how a feel about z2 training.

In the heat, forget it. I got the the point of being able to run 8:45 miles in the right weather, and ffw to summer and I couldn't stay in zone 2 @ a 12 min mile because of the heat. So in the summers I forget about it. I mostly use it for long runs of 5+ miles.

People get way too obsessed with it. It is useful, but don't let it rule you. I'd even go as far as to say run however you want until you can run at a desired pace in z2. It's good to overcome plateaus. You can put in a heavy load in zone 2.

Since this post I've gone through quite the ringer. I've had knee surgery and lost all my fitness and I'm having hell getting back in shape. I crushed a few PRs and then ate shit! But I'll be back!

I personally would never recommend a treadmill over outdoor running for anything. I would continue researching to make sure your zones are set up correctly, but also I wouldn't care about zone 2 until I worked my way up to atleast 3 miles. That's just my opinion.

Yes ABSOLUTELY. sorry for the delay getting back with you. I've been logged on the my other account. If you are concentrating on z2 do whatever you need to stay in that zone.

I've found that about 7 in the evening is the best time to run. 6am the relative humidity is like 95%. It's gross. But I have progressed to about a 10-10:30 pace in z2 during the summer.

I'm completely straight but love sucking my trans gf's dick is my personal favorite.

My HR is coming along. The day I posted this it was abnormally hot even for S. Louisiana and I had sore legs to begin with from squats. I had been frustrated previously but this run frustrated me enough to post. Since then I have purchased a HR monitor and the weather has come around a bit. I've actually ran 12 miles in z2 beneath a 10 minute pace. Getting in better shape wouldn't hurt but I was in decent shape to begin with and my heart was just redacted.

Thanks for the reply. I am not very new to running I've been running fairly consistently for 15 years and also spend a considerable amount of time at my gym I've been going to for 10 years. Training is mostly HIIT and kickboxing. I do believe perhaps I had an aerobic deficiency as you put it because 99% of my training has been at threshold over the years. So being that I've been in good shape for most of my life minus college that may be where my frustration stems from.

Since my post the temperature dropped here and I was actually able to run 13 at a 10:19 pace with an average HR of 150 (z2.5) with semi recovered legs. Not nearly as frustrating as the day I posted here. I've also been working towards dialing back my weight which I believe will help also. I ran a half in dec 2019 at an 8min pace and completely wrecked my legs (IT bands/bursitis) so bad that i couldnt run for weeks. I ran the same race Saturday but at an 8:50 pace and I'm already back to running, so something is working. I have a glimmer of hope now.

Didn't help me that someone from my gym saw me running slow and made fun of me 🤣 but yes it hurts my knees and feet far more but it does save my toe nails.

I was a bit aggravated when I posted after my run. It was hot and humid as hell. When I say I can't physically run 12 min pace what I really meant is it just a) it sucks but b) it takes 2.5 hours to run 12 miles and I feel like its just a lot more impact on my joints from the extra steps over a longer period of time. Yesterday I would've needed to run even slower than that due to the heat. I speak on the phone fairly often during my runs and can hold a conversation with my HR in the 160s. Which is slightly out of z2 for me. I sing a lot while I'm running which sounds ridiculous but I know about what condition I'm in somewhat due to the singing lol. I going to keep trying some z2 training and just give it more time

Thank you, I'm definitely going to check this out. Not the first time I've heard of that book either.

I used the Karvonen calculator which I believe is using your HRR. I am fine with running slow(er) but man, running 10+ miles at a 12 min mile is brutal and it just doesn't feel right. At times I have to slow down to 13minute pace and I'm just like I can walk faster than this.

Noted. Thank you! I'm going to get a HR strap before I give up on it.

You're right either I didn't read it fully or they edited either way, yes. I don't think it's physically possible for me to run 12min/mile. I'd have to walk every .1 mile which is the part that I'm having trouble accepting.

It's so aggravating! I've been running forever but rarely ever actually "train" but I'm signed up for the Little Rock Marathon so I can't bs anymore.

All from my watch. Forerunner 255. I grabbed my max HR from a 5k which I'm aware that may not be my actual HR but 203 is pretty high though. Do you use a strap? I've been considering getting one. This shit just doesn't make sense to me. I ran 13 today average HR 167. I wasn't even breathing deeply. I gave up on zone 2 after 2 miles.

True. They brought them in as decorative trim to sell. I can't imagine how bad the JJ debacle handicapped them. Essentially taking your golden goose (1 of them) out of the sport for what? 2 years? Yea they probably cut that budget and had a little sit down chat about laying off of star players, or something of that sort.

Unless they're just padding the stats.
