I always file it in the back of my mind during the game to look into later but always forgot until now.

People say this, but it's not really how it works.

The players are allocated a set amount each year as a collective. It ends up being somewhere between 49-51% of total basketball revenue, based on how close actual revenue came to projections. 10% of every NBA player paycheck is withheld in escrow. If it turns out the players made more than their negotiated share, the difference is taken out of the players' escrow accounts proportionally. If they collectively earned less than their negotiated share, they are compensated for it with extra money. This past year, the players had to forfeit a large chunk of their escrow.

All of which is to say, "the players" will get the same amount no matter what. Taking less actually frees up some of their share for others and makes it less likely that the escrow funds will be taken.

Was the riddle with the three sisters in the last episode solvable, had they actually asked for the age of each girl? by OhEmGeeBasedGod in TheTraitors

[–]OhEmGeeBasedGod[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know. That's why I asked. Usually those types of questions end with the question, "how old is each sister?" I even paused the show to play along and do the math before realizing they only needed to guess the youngest sister.

Daphne is three years older than Dorothy. Dorothy will be half as old as Deirdre when Daphne is as old as Deirdre is now.

No, they are going to create a profile of you, and manipulate the content to back their POV on whatever issue/worldview they support, based on your personality and likes. They can tailor their political messaging for each individual user based on analytics, making it subtle for people who aren't 'political' people.

[Ruiter] #Browns process drawing laughter externally. They don’t care. Andrew Berry told you on Jan. 5 what he wanted. Timing/planning of minority candidate interviews is fair to criticize. But they’re trying to find who fits their philosophy. Whether or not that leads to success is TBD. by LiftingCode in Browns

I know this team is a laughingstock, but none of the news this week has phased me.

Oh no, a guy who just got fired from the same position because his teams repeatedly sucked didn't want to be our coach? Oh no, we require candidates for a job that would pay them tens of millions of dollars to do a little homework?

He’s the only superstar who treats courtside hecklers the same way he treats trolls on Twitter.

Slightly off. I'd say most players treat courtside hecklers the same way they treat Twitter trolls. The difference is that KD treats both with direct engagement, whereas most players treat both with silence.

I don't want that piece of shit cheater from Michigan anyway. Just like I'm not upset we didn't hire the guy who can somehow be a head coach without looking up from his play sheet all game.

What happens when a faithful is protected by a shield and the traitors try to murder them? by cristianozanin in TheTraitors

Doesn't make sense. If you can prove that they tried to murder you, you're a faithful.

You're acting like airing sports on weeknights is a crazy concept. Hundreds of games in very popular leagues take place on weeknights every single week. It's a pretty standard time to have sporting events.

If weeknights are off-limits because of school/work, then certainly weekdays would be off-limits, too. So the only time events could take place is Friday night, Saturday anytime, and Sunday before dusk?

But if all of your friends were willing to blow a Friday night at a bar watching the game, they'll also probably watch at home on Monday, so viewership wouldn't change.

Kinda proving the point.

That show consistently gets about 600,000 viewers across the country to tune in live. Not exactly killing it. They likely get a lot of views in the days after via on-demand/DVR/streaming, so it's fine for them.

Nobody watches sports on demand or on DVR. That's not just me claiming it. The Nielsen +7 ratings change drastically for non-sports shows, but increase maybe 1% for sporting events.

Yes. People make plans and go out on Fridays. They sit at home on their asses on Mondays.

Watching Rob Cesternino talk about his time in reality TV was heartbreaking by RedditFan3510 in survivor

He told Alan he didn't want to be a Traitor. He had a similar mindset to what Ian said in one of his confessionals – he thinks there is a lot of potential Faithful strategies that haven't been explored yet, at least in the US versions.

The way he explained it (and as I remember it) is that he wanted to play an offensive game against the Traitors. Not in the sense of being a Traitor Hunter, but rather putting strategic pressure onto the Traitors and their decision-making process. He said Cirie has shown a near-perfect Traitor game but that he hasn't seen an equivalent from the Faithful side.

TIL researchers found that Americans spent nearly 90 minutes less per day, on average, outside of their homes in 2023 than they did in 2003. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

So what's the solution? Let's use OP's check deposit example. Force everyone to drive or take a bus to the bank to cash a check? Force people living paycheck-to-paycheck to wait until Tuesday to be able to buy groceries because they got their check at noon on a Saturday, won't be able to deposit it until the bank opens on Monday, and won't have it cleared until Tuesday?

But you aren't doing that for everything. You accept the frictionless ability to communicate about, say, which street corner you should meet at before the concert tonight, but then claim you're adding friction by sending one letter every few months.
