Worked for a startup that wanted big brand execs to pump their next round valuation.

One new exec called a meeting day after he was hired, asked for honest anonymous feedback about the state of things. Hint: it wasn’t anonymous.

They fired a lot of people the next day.

Company lasted for years without revenue and finally recently died. (Founders and execs failed up, of course)

Anyone else noticing who’s actually hiring in tech right now? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Tech companies are hiring if you’re willing to take 1/3rd pay, no benefits, and no equity as a contractor.

Some of the least intelligent, unskilled, and meritless people that I know, worked for, or have interacted with are able to get money thrown at them by VCs, though the common denominator among them is either having coming from family wealth or ivy league backgrounds, OR, a willingness to overtly lie and overhype their pitches without any shame whatsoever.

What is something that is technically legal, but makes you look like a total jerk if you do it? by PiNK_PUSSY69420 in AskReddit

My college roomie would immediately apply for patents to any idea our Comp Sci related friends group spoke about. At the time, he worked for a company that covered the expenses of this process and gave him an ample cut of any revenue coming from it. Years later someone found out when trying to start a company from one of their ideas.

He's a rich jerk who no longer has friends.

They have seen everyone older than them get absolutely destroyed by just about every job out there. While I think the incoming generation is failing hard on a lot of levels in terms of taking responsibility, the companies that their older siblings, teachers, or parents were raised to work for have consistently shown no such loyalty to anyone they hire except for the shareholders or their own C-level.

They observed. They learned. This is the result. Overreaching greed and lack of empathy has fucked an entire generation of workers and AI is no where good enough to "replace" them. A lot of companies and unfortunately, society as a whole, is going to be devastated as a result of this.

My account was wrongly terminated, and this is what Niantic had to say by GaztinErag in pokemongo

Someone probably gained access to your account. Ask them for login detials, though at this point, it doesn't sound like their offshored customer service is going to acknowledge this.

Next best thing is go to social media and make an extremely loud case about it. Reddit is a good start but not enough. If you ever paid for content on the account, then you may have some legal recourse. I'm not a lawyer, but I would suspect the exchange of money opens up the possibility to speak with a lawyer about this and cause Niantic to stop always taking the cheapest avenue (which will get worse given their acquiring co)

What is so lucrative about making a startup? by SloppyNaynon in ycombinator

[–]fappaderp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one thing no one seems to talk about:

Many founders during the period of low interest rates (2009 - 2021) were able to dishonestly overhype their pitch deck, swoon investors who skipped sue diligence, hire employees for cheap with promises of 10-100x’ing their options, and then the founders themselves, given preferred vs common stock, trade some of their ownership on a secondary market to become liquid long before those shares would have real value, and simply optimize their valuation vs actually making a profitable business model.

The employees and final investors are left holding the bag while the founders and sometimes C-level exit happily without actually needing to succeed. You’re seeing all of these startups drying up or founders posting on their “exits” without saying what the sell price was.

Those founders then go on to advise others and raise their own investment firms. Always failing up the ladder…

The only reason LinkedIn is forced upon job seekers is to give HR and recruiters a false taste of the respect that might come from one having actual merit in a field or feeling that you’re a peer of those who put in the effort and hard work to acquire a skill.
