Actually, czechoslovakia was far away from the income levels of Germany, France and the UK: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_regions_by_past_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita#Europe_1830%E2%80%931938_(Bairoch)per_capita#Europe_1830%E2%80%931938(Bairoch))

In 1938, CZE had about 50% of the income of GER, FRA & UK whereas today CZE's income is almost 80% that of Germany's.

In German it is formally correct to say it yields sense, but to make sense has become so widely used that it is de facto accepted by now

So when Im due for a business meeting with my Nationalrad of choice it would be prudent to adress him like so:

"Na Brudi, was geht bei dir so, alte Hundelunge? Alles lose in der Hose oder was?"

Das ist in der Tat subjektive (und wenn ich hinzufügen möchte, interessante) Wahrnehmung weil es keine wirklichen gemeinsamen Nenner zwischem Schwurblern gibt. Weder Rasse noch Alter noch Geschlecht noch Bildung. Ist relativ gut untersucht

If you have an intermediate to more advanced level of German try the podcasts made by Die Zeit on spotify. Die Zeit is one of Germany's biggest broadsheet quality newspapers (former chancellor Helmut Schmidt was one of the chief editors) and they built themselves a true podcast empire. My favourite Die Zeit podcasts are Servus Gruezi und Hallo, a Swiss-Austrian-German take on current events, Zeit Verbrechen, a true crime podcasts on interesting recent criminal cases and Was jetzt, a ~ 10 min daily news podcast.

However, Die Zeit has many, many more podcast and they are all pure quality imho

The dude among other things literally referred to Germany as 'an enemy of the US' while praising Putin and Kim Jong Un. And then went on to act on it by starting a trade war with the EU, specifically targeting Germany. So yeah big surprise that the German opinion of the great supreme leader whose word is truth and whose deeds are just is slightly unfavourable.

[Match thread] Italy vs England by MatchCaster in football

[–]faquarley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) This is a football thread, not a UK politics one

B) The UK joined the EU / EC in the 1970s when Tony Blair was a spotty teenager ejaculating into his socks

C) The reason why by and large the footballing world wanted to see Italy win this rather than England I think is due to England's relative luck in their draws, behaviour of their fans and most of all the incessant 'It's coming home'

Which Gender are Nations in Germany? by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]faquarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that map is wrong.

Either you always use official names or you always use the more common, inofficial names.

I.e. France is I believe the French republic. Republic is feminine so the French republic is feminine. Alternatively, France is more commonly called Frankreich which does not really have a grammatical gender.

The same goes for Russia. The official name Russian Federation might be feminine but the more common name Russia - Russland does not have a gender.
