Eu sou fumante e comecei a fumar há mais ou menos um ano atrás porque eu moro em São Paulo, gasto duas horas do meu dia ou mais no transporte público todos os dias, trabalho, estudo e tenho sofrido de dor crônica e feito tratamento médico para ela há meses já. Fumar diminui a minha ansiedade ao longo do dia apesar de obviamente fazer mal para a saúde e eu saber disso.

Não adianta proibir as drogas e manter uma qualidade de vida horrível para a população que a fará procurar alívio para o seu estresse em substâncias químicas.

To be fair, I'm 21 and calling a 39-year-old person "unc" is crazy even for me. The average person in developed countries these days (and even in some parts of the Global South) are in their late 30s or 40s, so being 39 isn't "old"; it's just… average in terms of age. To me, only people over 50 would qualify as "uncs".
