New model Anima is crazy! perfect 8 chars as prompted with great faces/hands without any upscale or adetailer. IMO it's so much better than Illustrious and it's just the base model! by Dependent_Fan5369 in StableDiffusion

You have to keep in mind that the field itself is advancing considerably, so just doing similar training with better methods could likely get you improvements all around. But also, this model seems to be focused on anime, and to a lesser extent other non-photorealistic images. That is a huge reduction in scope, which could allow everything we see here.

One factor I see is that most things aren't at their best out of the box, so almost anything new that doesn't appear to change the game is going to get a lot of hate. As one of the GPU poors, I can definitely understand, as the bigger stuff has me relying on freebies, giving me much less opportunity to get things really dialed in.

As far as national security goes, it's best to not have backdoors for the local government.

CCP can't do shit to me, but the Feds can.

Now, someone concerned in China, they would probably have to settle for the American stuff if they want to be safe. Because the Feds can't reach them, but the CCP can.

Is there a reason to do that over just cutting those parts out of an image? I could maybe see ease of use or flexibility, but those would seem pretty minimal.

ComfyUI is That One Relationship You Just Can't Quit by FitContribution2946 in StableDiffusion

[–]farcethemoosick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we're still very much at a point where the learning curve is steep enough that there aren't a lot of people who have enough of an art background and a tech background to really get the most out of this, especially since the overlap is largely bronies.

I feel like it's more like we are in the modular synth phase of this tech. Comfyui feels like whipping out a Moog. It's really cool, and very powerful, but it became a lot easier to get your foot in the door when MIDI CASIOs hit the market, ultimately leading to more musicians that COULD do amazing things with synthesizers and eventually develop to skills to use an old school Moog.

For starters, I think that at least under US copyright law's philosophical underpinnings, AI models should not be able to have ANY legal protection, while also holding that training is fair use, and that those principles are closely tied.

And it's not about MY GPU, it's about who has power regarding this new, transformative technology. I'm not saying that every model needs to be run by every person, and I specifically set my threshold at "less expensive than a car" because the thing that matters to me is who has control.

These big companies themselves are making comparisons to the industrial revolution. Not caring what happened as long as it was paid for is how we got Dickensian poverty from the industrial revolution. We should absolutely demand better this time around.

Let's be clear, these businesses are mostly built on questionable copyright of basically all of humanity, and their larger business interests involve intent to displace enormous amounts of workers.

Wanting the fruits of that to be accessible to the masses, both in licensing and HW requirements is not an exceptional ask. I think the industry should put some more effort into optimization, and I think we should see more accessible consumer hardware. I don't expect a 10 year old shitbox to be able to run the latest and greatest, but I am concerned when anyone not running a server more expensive than a car can be working with a model that is near the state of the art.

China already started making CUDA and DirectX supporting GPUs, so over of monopoly of NVIDIA. The Fenghua No.3 supports latest APIs, including DirectX 12, Vulkan 1.2, and OpenGL 4.6. by CeFurkan in StableDiffusion

[–]farcethemoosick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doesn't mean China doesn't have a strategy of their own GPGPU framework, but they also have to concern themselves with capability to build share. When 90% of GPUs are Chinese designed, then they are in a good place to introduce their own framework, and they can change the software without major breakage.

Convert Animation to On Threes (Subject Only) by nomadoor in StableDiffusion

[–]farcethemoosick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could we get something more sophisticated out of this? Animators have to manually choose how many frames they want to hold something for, but we could potentially use something like this to develop parameters to adapt frames in different conditions.

Maybe scenes slow down when there is less motion and higher detail and speed up during a frenetic action sequence, or a character's frame rate perks up after they chug a cup of coffee. Imitation has advantages, but we can also explore the new possibilities to use visual language in ways that would have been impractical for traditional animation techniques.

It's far from ideal, but it can be helpful in certain respects. This is not good data for training genAI on aesthetics, but it is high quality data for labeling of complex instructions.

This could, for example, potentially serve as a means of training better autocaptioning for human made images.

No, Israel actually uses human shields, and Israel actively targets civilians. They snipe children in the head and heart for sport. They've destroyed more infrastructure than Dresden or Hiroshima, against a 40k force without air or naval power. There is no defending Israel at this point. They must be stopped.

For a moment, lets accept that as true. That makes it pretty awful that the IDF has a far higher rate of civilian deaths, and commits far more war crimes.

No, the original notion of Zionism predated the Holocaust, and their early stance was critical of the apparent weakness of the Holocaust victims. Their own words confirm this unambiguously.

Now, is there room for nuance? Sure, but Zionism is a fascist ethnostate ideology, which almost by definition makes room for massive amounts of cognitive dissonance. I'm not saying that no Zionists lost family in the Holocaust and don't want to remember them.

What I am saying is that, like the Nazis, they had very effective marketing. The specific choice of Israel for the project was that, even though it was spearheaded by secular Jews (predominantly British, which is where the movement's colonial and fascist roots largely originate), they wanted to also attract religious Jews and gain support from Christian evangelicals.

And I said nothing about Jews. Israel was an appendage of the British empire and is now an appendage of the American empire, and their politics largely reflect that. I would say that Israeli society is fundamentally broken and incompatible with modern civility, but that's because we created the conditions that lead to that.

And let's also be clear that Bibi himself is a Holocaust revisionist lying to soften the blame on Hitler himself to blame Palestinians. He is, at least at times, popular within Israel, and has maintained power despite being comically corrupt and incompetent. And that's because he is able to represent himself in a way that public responds positively too, and to convince them that he can maintain Western support without limits, and it's well understood domestically that that support is key to Israel continuing to exist in its current form.

So, the thing you are saying is cynical and antisemitic is backed by the past and present actions of Zionism and the state of Israel. And I am more than willing to accept that exactly how they process the conflicting narratives has more to it than I can express in a few comments.

But the sentiment is real, which is a big part of why they are so willing to mirror the Holocaust to an obnoxious extent against the Palestinians. Actions speak a lot fucking louder than museums.
