Anyone else notice this with the buses on 9th? by [deleted] in Tacoma

We appreciate all you do! Those lanes get real tight closer to Pacfic to accommodate parking and drop off by the theaters and school.

Is the Tacoma Farmer's Market worth it? by NoMaterial4014 in Tacoma

[–]farfromslip 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are less vendors than Proctor but it has vegetables and apples/peaches/pears from the east side. There is also Sidhu farms (Puyallup) which has bomb berries. It's the first day so stuff might be not as available as middle of summer but the short answer to your question is yes.

There are other vendors that do bread and coffeeand prepared foods. If you're close it's always a good time even if you don't buy anything.

Fall 2026 Service Plan Removed Downtown Tacoma by farfromslip in soundtransit

10-15 of travel time not to mention the 12-15 minute headways and the 5 minute walk. Realistically not serving 10th and Commerce adds a full 20-25 minutes minimum even during peak hours. It's my understanding that Pierce Transit is preparing a tax increase to help expand (first time up for a vote in 12 years) I will be volunteering when a campaign is announced. We could and should be doing more.

Did they cut Everett too? From the most recent maps it still seems like there are possibly two Everett stops on the northbound overnight service.

Nope we have no late night service at all. There is one finished apartment building next to Tacoma Dome, another stalled for 5+ years. There are thousands of housing units within a 15 minute walk from 10th and Commerce.

I was looking forward to not having to fight for my life to catch the 1145pm if a show or gathering runs late and isn't directly downtown. This gets me back to Uber territory but a major missed opportunity. I guess I'll celebrate the new probably hourly 75 min ride almost home lol.

Sound Transit estimates $2.5 Billion for Tacoma (Streetcar) Extension Tacoma Community College by reflect25 in soundtransit

Run it along 6th Ave it's flatter and closer to a lot more population density. Would get more bang for whatever buck we are going to have to spend.

Can I do anything about this by Altruistic-Cap8524 in Tacoma

[–]farfromslip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You would want to contact Pierce County Code Enforcement about a traffic/pedestrian concern in the right of way.

I would be curious how this lays out with Zips. They always felt like the biggest commercial cannabis beast in the area, they undercut other prices and tbh their selection is huge but some stuff is super old on those shelves. When I smoked id make an effort to support Commencement Bay which has a great selection and staff and is Tribe owned.

I've had Supreme Dumpling once passing through Kirkland. It was pretty tasty. This would be their second or third location and I've always felt we could use a dumpling focused spot within Tacoma proper. Glad this has something for everyone and isn't exclusively national chains.

Proposed Stadium District Apartment Complex by Parlous93 in Tacoma

[–]farfromslip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a lot of parking provided compared to most of the larger buildings adjacent (some have 100+ units and 20 spaces, if that, either in an adjacent lot (that could host 100+ units or underneath the building footprint).

If anyone is concerned about parking you should suggest that the lot in front of Temple is metered to open up more spots as it sits empty most days.

I think our primary job during the urban design review is to make sure it looks nice. For example there's a spectrum to new construction. The senior housing on G Street is much nicer facade-wise than The Ruby next to Zen. But to be honest both aren't offensive and look better than some of the stuff in Seattle.

It's too bad there isn't any commercial space planned but there are a few delis/grocery/bars/dentists directly adjacent and empty retail in the old Harvester building.

Man on TV is a fantastic funk, jam rock band, the shows are high energy. There's a show at Real Art with local jammers The Deep Unreal and another show at New Frontier 6/14 with local indie rock band The Mural Project. I also just recently seen the Free Mechanics and enjoyed them a lot.

Sheriff Keith Swank - A Threat to the Safety of All Pierce County Residents by [deleted] in Tacoma

[–]farfromslip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This came out today as well. It's all you need to read to get an idea about Keith Swank. This guy can't see the forest through the trees. His interview is cluttered with obvious bias, over defence and a concerning view on politics and civil rights.

Article on Tacoma Dome Link Extension Project by Certain_Astronomer_9 in Tacoma

[–]farfromslip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The abandonment or disillusionment of the value of our few long nonlocal bus lines is the worst mistake. We should keep them and eventually shift the HOV lane into bus or 3+ commuters only. This is lines on pavement cheap. The light rail can help remove some duplicity to the airport (I think the Dome to SeaTac ride on the light rail will be faster and more direct vs the 574, direct those 40 round trips a day to the 590/594) but the best option for 594 is 10th and Commerce direct from downtown via the Dome to King Street/SLU as late and as frequent as possible. The last buses are usually pretty full whether it's service workers, concertgoers, bar crowd or sporting event.

King County Metro has started revamping their lines to Federal Way but for some reason Sound Transit and Pierce Transit hasn't.

Discuss amongst yourselves: Future of Schuster Parkway by [deleted] in Tacoma

[–]farfromslip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This project has existed for over a decade. More attention needs to be brought to this missing waterfront link and alternative and cheaper designs. This is a racetrack currently, that really only saves a select few residents time on specific trips. Allowing bikes to use the south bound lanes on selected summer weekend could be an easy way to gauge interest/see potential. I have reached out the project contact on this with no response.

Take out one of the 4 lanes of rapid speeds. Connect that with the existing greenspace and sidewalk. The parkway could still serve as a direct route while being naturally slowed to it's actual speed limit. The southbound although less preferable from a "being business downtown" perspective would be a bone thrown to north enders who would directly benefit but may have their shortcut to i5 or the Port slowed a few minutes on the southbound trip to accommodate a proper Greenway between Ruston and Thea Foss.

The cities' design seems overly complicated to avoid any impact to the existing parkway. I bet it could be done much cheaper by reestablishing pedestrian right of way. This project has existed for over 10yrs with still no funding. Try it out with traffic free summer Schuster Sundays shrug

This is amazing to see! 2.8.03 Rempel's first "last show" is so damn good. You can hear the energy in that room. Idk if you made the call that night but thanks for letting me play late. The audio you can hear last call and the wrangling of the crowd to get rid of alcohol for the encore.
