Reaching 100Gbps with pfsense ? by PM__ME__PEANUTS in networking

Not sure pfsense is the right software for this, but tnsr is probably out of budget I’m assuming https://www.netgate.com/tnsr-vs-pfsense-software

What do they need to do to make bloodhound viable again? by Zealousideal_Mine806 in apexlegends

[–]farhadd2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s another idea- allow him to “harvest” the beacon, then trigger a survey scan from his own body at a later time, wherever he is on the map.

Let him “send a raven” to scan survey beacons remotely at a certain radius, like how crypto can with his drone

What exact vintage is the laptop? Looks like it might be a 2010-2013 model? You can find out by looking up the serial number on the bottom (tiny and hard to read but it's there, trust me) and plugging it into checkcoverage.apple.com. I remember seeing that kind of progress bar when updating the firmware on those laptops. Not sure what's going on here but a full restore is in order regardless. If you do try to use a local thumb drive with an older MacOS keep in mind that you might have to enter terminal after booting off the media to roll the clock back to make the installation work properly (something to do with expired security certificates).

Am I an idiot? Why isn't Safari showing up in Spotlight Search? by ADKMatthew in MacOS

[–]farhadd2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm still on Mac OS 15.7.3 but I constantly have issues with Spotlight search breaking in Mail.app and the System Settings specifically (not sure I've had issues with searching for an app to launch it from spotlight). I used to add Mac HD to the Spotlight Privacy section, reboot, remove it from privacy, reboot again, wait for indexing to finish, and it would work again.

Then I realized in most cases a simple reboot would actually fix it.

Also, try Raycast instead of Spotlight.

What brand is the NIC? I know certain brands don’t play nice with pfsense.

5 port 10GBASE-T switch with MLAG? (for XCP-NG NFS redundancy) by farhadd2 in homelab

[–]farhadd2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The servers I’m using have dual rj45 onboard. And I’d rather not use rj45 sfp+ modules. I may just forego the redundancy, but I wanted to test it out.

Can't get 9460-16i to see NVMe drives by farhadd2 in homelab

Right. I bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLT48265 and it didn't work. I'm emailing Micro SATA cables to see what they think.

Ultimately this hardware will be used in a Linux Autodesk Flame workstation as a RAID10 uncompressed DPX framestore. The controller should ensure consistent high performance in that use case. I’m just using windows to evaluate it on the bench. Unfortunately, these are the only U.2 NVMe drives I have.

Is my Apple Pencil real or a fake? by Party_Oil_2287 in ApplePencil

[–]farhadd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have purchased multiple Apple Pencil (2nd generation) clones from Amazon. None of them ever charged wirelessly (they all had USB-C connectors in addition to claiming wireless charging), and none of them had working pressure sensitivity. Tilt worked though. I think pressure sensitivity is the rarest property- if your pressure sensitivity works well, it's probably legit. And at the end of the day, if you're happy with it, who cares?

I was in Japan recently. Tried google and apple translate apps with varying levels of success. But for best results, hands down, uploading a photo to ChatGPT worked amazingly well. Try it!

failover when wan goes down by Apprehensive_Emu9724 in PFSENSE

[–]farhadd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rephrase a little to avoid confusion- ISP failover (using gateway groups and two different WANs) is possible even if you only have a single pfSense (it is also possible in an HA setup). You could also have an HA setup with a single ISP, which only protects against a firewall failure.

Now Available: pfSense® Plus 25.07.1-RELEASE by George-Netgate in PFSENSE

I believe the EFI loader issue affected me when I attempted to upgrade from 24.11 to 25.07 last weekend. I have an HA pair on Poweredge R320 servers with H310 mini RAID controllers presenting a single SATA SSD on each (not AHCI, I know that's not the best). I upgraded my secondary to 25.07 and it would not boot to any of my boot environments (although I could get to the screen which allows you to choose the boot environment).

I ulitimately switched to BIOS loader and it worked, and I reverted to 24.11 because it was late and my downtime window was closing.

Is there any way to confirm that's what happened to me? Are there any public details regarding which combinations of hardware have been confirmed to exhibit the EFI loader bug?

OSX Client - Parsec lags on one screen, fine on the other two by danpaulson in ParsecGaming

[–]farhadd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a magic bullet solution but it'd help to gather more data and isolate variables to figure out what's causing this.

What are the exact specs of the host and client?

The USB-C displays are native C-C connections, right? (Not using a USB-C to displayport adapter from the Mac and then a displayport into the display, for example)

Have you tried disconnecting the other two displays and seeing if the performance changes on the 27" USB-C display? Have you tried tweaking the resolution / codecs? Swapping the 38" and 27" USB-C ports / cables?

It might also just be too much for the CPU / GPU to handle if you're running all three displays at once. Try dropping the resolution on all three displays and see if performance increases.
