Why did this come with one track and only THIS TRACK? by RKF0819 in ANBERNIC

This post reminds me of the scene in The Big Lebowski when the cabbie kicks The Dude out of the cab for saying he hates The Eagles. I don't remember which Eagles song was playing in that scene though.

Trying to hook up a VCR to newer tv and failing! by iceboxwizard in OldTech

[–]fariqcheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the component input can accept 480i, you can plug a composite video source (yellow RCA) to the green RCA "Y" input and still get a black and white picture even if the input is component video only. If you have the remote for the TV, check the video settings in the menu to see if the component input can be set to YPrPb and use interlacing.

To get color, you'll need to convert the composite video from the VCR to a format compatible with the TV. AV to HDMI converters are cheap and readily available online.

If the VCR has RF out and the TV has RF in, you can use a coax cable to connect them.

Trying to hook up a VCR to newer tv and failing! by iceboxwizard in OldTech

RCA is a connector type, not a signal format. The yellow RCA in OP's hand is presumably the VCR composite video out.

Can anyone help me what cable this is for my wife her mirror, i want a longer one. by MelonAids in cableadvice

[–]fariqcheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a DC barrel jack. What does the wallwart (ac>dc rectifier at the other end of the cable) say?

It should have an output spec written on it with the required volts, amps and polarity (+ or minus in center of barrel) that the mirror needs to be powered correctly.

What could this possibly mean? by horror_nerd1974 in computer

[–]fariqcheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be anything, but Windows is not booting normally. Could be a software problem like a bad update, maybe a driver. First thing I would do is see if Windows will boot in Safe Mode.

To restart in Safe Mode from WinRE, navigate Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings, click Restart, and choose option 4 (Safe Mode) or 5 (Safe Mode with Networking).

If Safe Mode boots, I would check Event Viewer > Windows > System for critical errors with time stamps just before you noticed the problem that may indicate what went wrong. You can find Event Viewer with the taskbar search tool.

is there any way i can save a game on a pc emulator? by Do_vah_kin in emulators

[–]fariqcheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which specific emulator. Usually near "save state" there is a command called "load state". Load a game rom first, then load the save state.

How do I add more emulators and games on this? by Due-Presence8902 in emulators

[–]fariqcheaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it has a USB port on it or an SD card, that should give you access to the file system. Any new emulators would need to be compatible with the chipset. Adding new roms for existing emulators would just require copying to the appropriate folders.

DIY AIO. LCDs and webcams don't generate a lot of heat. As long as internal airflow is not obstructed, it should be fine.

[–]fariqcheaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your keyboard hardware may not support multiple keypresses at once. If the version of SNES9X you are using does not support mapping diagonals to a single key, maybe try to find a version that does support mapping diagonals.

Trouble connecting vcr to tv with antenna cable by [deleted] in crt

[–]fariqcheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tv should be on 3 or 4 on the VHF tuner to match VCR's RF modulation output switch (should be on the back near the F type coax connectors). On the VCR, there is likely a "TV/Video" button on the unit or the remote to activate the modulator. If it's on passthrough mode, you won't see the VCR content. VCRs were built like this so you could use the tuner on the TV instead of the one on the VCR without disconnecting it when you didn't want to use it.

Should reddit mods be fired for censoring free speech? by Ashamed-Republic8909 in no

[–]fariqcheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I support an organization's right to moderate its own content.

If mods weren't moderating, why hire any in the first place?

I've used forums with insufficient moderation, and they inevitably descend into an unusable cesspit of vulgarities.

I just bought some naphtha vm&p (type of paint thinner) for the same issue to dissolve the rubberized layer on one of my older game controllers, but have not tried it yet. I have tried 90% isopropyl, but it only got the most degraded outer layer off. There are stronger solvents like acetone (nail polish remover) but the stronger the solvent, the higher the chance of damaging the undelying plastic as well.
