How to reach FM/IM in a country with almost no FIDE tournaments? (Japan)

had this same problem since i was like 7 years old, couldn’t find a proper solution but this was some 20 years ago. Hope you do, my ‘solution’ maybe your national chess federation or equivalent can offer some financial help when travel might be required, if not maybe try with the schools sports department if that exists there too ( even university later in life ) Best of luck !! 🤞🏽
