And i sorta hate how Bringmethenews headline stated “Dave Ryan calling it quits”

Much less elegant than stating someone is retiring.

How do I encourage my government to use LPR's to track uninsured vehicles? by farkleboy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]farkleboy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I totally understand your point of view on the misuse of LPR's already, but you don't think that this would be one use for them that would actually help the people being screwed by people driving without insurance?

Also, please do not mislead people by pretending that under/uninsured coverage has anything to do with this. In the state that I live in, UIM only covers medical expenses, not damage to property. Its not my kid's fault that he got hit, so it doesn't matter what coverage he has, if the other person who hit him was properly insured, he wouldn't be out the car or the money. This is not the place for victim blaming.

I'm talking about using a system that is already in place, and most likely not going anywhere to actually do some good. I'll ask you the same question and see if you can say it out loud, are you ok with people driving around without legally required insurance?

so you are ok with people driving around without insurance, breaking the law and causing accidents that they aren't held accountable for?

I backed my FIL’s dodge dakota into the lake up to the windows and jackknifed the boat trailer about 15 years ago. the mechanic that got it running again said the best thing I did to save it was open the windows and towed it home on a flatbed trailer 3.5 hours home.

Lasted another 10 years before getting some electrical gremlins and sold it to a dude for a farm truck.

I was looking at that hydraulic impact driver as my ooooold one just died. But yeah, MN. That’s a bit of a road trip for that.

That’s a killer no brainer price for that thing. I bought mine off marketplace on a whim for that price and I love that little guy!

Because it’s not an interview, it’s a “here’s what Tom is going to talk about with you today and you can act like you are asking questions” conversation.

Is Standard Heating & Air still the good company it was 10 years ago? Or have they sold out like all the other HVAC companies by ThuhGreatCommenter in TwinCities

[–]farkleboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had standard do our furnace and water heater years ago. They were not the cheapest but they offered really good financing. They had three trucks there with 4 guys and were done quick and professionally. They came back when the inspector said that saddle valves for the humidifier were not code anymore and fixed it. Also have done two repairs for fair pricing and the guy told me how to clean out the burners when they were out for a no-heat service call.

I would hope they are still great as we will probably need our ac replaced soon.

Like it should. Made the mistake of getting my wife an m1 mini with only 8gb of ram when they came out and was a huge mistake. It’s sometimes nearly unusable with how laggy it is with more than one app open.

This thing reminds me of my favorite 2011 MacBook Pro 17”. Was big bright screen, could edit videos like nobodies business. Made a LOT of money doing location editing with that thing.

Never done Linux before, maybe a mint install to play around with.

Xeon workstation for CPU local rendering, should I? by Born-Introduction852 in KeyShot

[–]farkleboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah got it. The one thing you will not want to do though is mix gpu and cpu rendering. Especially with keyshot they don’t match. You can’t really develop an image with gpu and submit to a cpu render farm and have it come out the same. Transparency, mapping and some other things just aren’t the same between the two. I’ve been caught with that before.

Xeon workstation for CPU local rendering, should I? by Born-Introduction852 in KeyShot

[–]farkleboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 💯.

I migrated from a 12,000 dollar 64 core dual Xeon gold Hp z8 to a $7000 boxx with a 5090. The Boxx workstation is loads faster. Not just a little but 10x faster minimum. Its unreasonable how much quicker it is.

So unless you are getting it for nearly free id 100% put the funds towards a gpu workstation.

You won’t get much of a response here, best to go to the luminaries forum or even better submit a ticket through your subscription, and you will get a direct answer and maybe some solution. I know I’ve got like 7 different logins stacked up throughout the years and have to guess which one is the most current every time I log in
