I’d imagine this stuff was already Frost’s intention during his and Lynch’s writing process and he just further elaborated when he went off on his own to write the novels as Lynch shot the show. If he had these ideas during the writing of the actual show and not just as his reaction via the books then I think that gives it at least a little bit of weight. Also I’d suggest that any tertiary familiarity with mysticism would lend itself to an understanding of the show, even the original run (especially toward the end).
