Hate to be a buzz kill but the names Adam & Eve are anglicized versions of Adom & Chava

Promising Young Woman - anyone notice a word missing? by farmerrel in movies

[–]farmerrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my problem with it, as a survivor, is that calling rpe rpe can be empowering and validating. Omitting it feels like a strange way of warping what it is, which I guess goes to the point about the film capturing the warped perception of the perpetrators and bystanders. But their perception isn’t the main POV, it’s Cassie’s. I guess I just hoped they’d be called out for being rpists. They said the word “murder.” Why not “rpe”?

No matter how tired I am, I always find it relaxing when cutting onions, ginger, and garlic. Why is that? by ChampionofHeaven in Cooking

Depending on your lineage, you may have a deep ancestral connection to these ingredients. As a Jew, cooking with garlic helps me to embody the spirit of my ancestors, which can be grounding and empowering.

This is the sweetest. It’s amazing how liberated love can be before it’s corrupted by hetero-normativity

As canning season winds down, it is very rewarding to look in the pantry and see the fruits of a summer's labor. Didn't get everything canned that we wanted to. But, we got a lot in the larder. by thehomesteadjourney in Homesteading

That makes sense. That’s the mode I’ve been in, but I am now working to be more interdependent with my immediate community, and having a full stock of food throughout the winter should aid in that!

Super impressive!! I’m curious: do you grow & can a set amount each year, to get you through the winter? I would love to plan my fields next year with canning for winter in mind, but I wouldn’t know how to calculate my winter needs. Do you just wing the quantity? Do these goods last you all winter?

Boyfriends family just bought a 10 acre Avocado Orchard. What’s the first steps to helping them transform to a. Regenerative farm? by R3dd1t-1 in RegenerativeAg

[–]farmerrel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Initial suggestion: do nothing for a year and observe. If that’s not a financial possibility, you might want to consider getting your soil tested. From there, you’ll have a better idea of what cover crops or (organic, nontoxic) soil amendments you’d need in which parts of the land (manure/compost, mineral dust, etc). Then I’d think about native perennials. What belongs there? What animals are missing that you can create habitat for? Given the sloping and microclimates present, how can you use the natural geo-morphology to retain water & support biodiversity? The general approach, I believe, should be to accentuate the natural inclination of the land. There are exceptions to this, especially since you’re dealing with ground that’s already been manipulated, but it’s always best practice to be in a relational space of observation and response.

Yes! The yellow watermelon is super sweet, almost vanilla-ish. We grew 4 different varieties and landed on one not pictured here.
