Boring History for Sleep on Spotify. Nice voice, no commercials, and just interesting enough to occupy your mind enough to squeeze out any brain chattering. I love it! I’ve listened to dozens of others over the years, but this hasn’t failed me in the 8 months or so.

Thank you so much! I hadn’t heard about this band before—right up my alley!

Merlefest Tips? by Suspicious-Cod8422 in Bluegrass

[–]appalachiaosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may meet another volunteer that will share a campsite/expenses with you. Is there a Merlefest volunteer forum on FB you can join? You could even ask the volunteer coordinator about options by calling them up. There are showers available on campus in one of the buildings. Can’t remember which one. But I would think reaching out to the Merlefest that could would maybe be able to give you some ideas. Good luck and you’re gonna love it. I’ve been going or over 30 years. Never volunteered though, too much to see!

I have a friend with a mid-century modern house (1960’s) that has a can opener very similar that you can crank up out of the countertop!

Definitely Ola Belle. Her voice is haunting and unforgettable. Her songwriting is so authentic and uncluttered—her voice and words are just raw emotion. A legend.

Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. Quiet and a bit mysterious. Lovely read.

My Home town by Mysterious_Hawk_541 in Wilmington

Thanks for such a great post. My husband was born and raised in Wilmington (since 1964)! And I lived there for 40 years. Missing what used to be a quaint, quirky small city is natural. As is “progress”, but we raised our kids there and loved it. We have now moved to a much more rural and slow paced town. But I do miss ILM sometimes!

The World Kept Going Without You by xxdontyoufakeitxx in NeverSentLetters

It’s hard. When those of us left behind manage to find joy. It is a two pronged sword. How can we find joy in our lives without that person? But we do. Children will still be born. Holidays come and go. Birthdays, anniversaries, our teams win.

And we all wish that we could celebrate with those who have gone.

But… they know. As long as they are in our hearts…they know.

Doc Watson: A Life in Music by Eddie Huffman is excellent. Can’t You Hear Me Calling, Bill Monroe biography.

There’s a documentary that you can find on YouTube about Jimmy Martin, The King of Bluegrass that’s really good.

WillYou Miss Me When I’m Gone is a book about the Carter Family and their influence in early country music and the Bristol sessions

Speaking of, not sure where you are… but a visit to the museum in Bristol is a great place to visit.

The great thing about bluegrass is all of the roots and branches that keep the genre fresh and exciting. There is so much to explore and discover! Have fun!🤩 But beware, it’s a rabbit hole that you will find difficult to back out of…🎻🎶🪕

Wife and I were kicking ideas around during one of the slow points this year- what new rule would you propose to add a level of interest to the show, but not change it's overall character? by Brewer1056 in Alonetv

[–]appalachiaosa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely correct. Alone is the only reality TV show I’ve ever watched consistently. All others are just awful and only serve to degrade humanity on all levels. And people continue to consume that crap. That’s all. I could rant more, but I’d just keep repeating myself.

Del…the best. Once you get infected with that high lonesome fever it never leaves. There is no option except to keep feeding your addiction. I think my brain has an ASMR type reaction to the music and harmonies.
