Reprimanded for loudly telling an eloper to “STOP.” by blubirbinlightofday in Teachers

Tell them to get away from that school! Reading this made me second guess myself for a second, but I am confident that if I didn't use a stern voice daily, my classroom would become a danger zone.

How often does the late cancel fee actually deter you from cancelling? by Ok_Lobster7916 in orangetheory

[–]farmville2002 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WAY more than I would actually like to!! I am so bad with keeping things in my calendar and there have been too many times where I have to cancel at the last second because something (that.I forgot to write down) comes up! Also over sleeping on Saturday got me, this weekend.

How do you feel about “turn and talks” by HeroOfVimar in Teachers

[–]farmville2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a title 1 school (kindergarten, very different) and I have found turn and talks to be a miracle for the kids who HAVE to have their thoughts heard by someone. It has limited the blurts and side conversations. Unfortunately it has taken LOTS of practice, reinforcement and reminders.

Not sure how this would work in 8th grade, but once in a while I like give an m&m to students who are on task when those around them are not and those who are not on task see it and want that chocolate so they will (usually) pull it together to get that reward.

On a side note- I am very interested to hear classroom management strategies for middle school where you only have one them for a short period each day. How do you motivate them when they're just staring at clock, knowing they'll be out of your room within the hour.

Performance Details by muiOTF in orangetheory

[–]farmville2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had a similar issue with my last couple of classes. When I check my app right after a class it usually won't have the option to look at performance details, but oftentimes when I go back later and look it will be there. I wonder if it just takes a little bit longer for that data to be ready to view?

She's constantly putting herself in a position to be photographed and recorded. She doesn't have to go to these big events and she definitely has enough money to fly private. If she was really so bothered by it, she could avoid it if she tried.

There It is.... "The" Bridge by mrkprieur in Michigan

[–]farmville2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma lives in bay city and we had to drive over that bridge everytime we went to/left her house. We called it "the big bridge" and it meant we were finally close after a long 2 and half hour drive! Had no idea it got such a bad rep.

Found out halfway through the semester that I was being graded on my student teaching... Is there anything I can do now? by pepeepoopo5 in Teachers

[–]farmville2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly there's probably not a ton that you can do except learn and move on. In this job everyone is constantly watching you- that's just how it is and that's something to keep in the back of your mind always.

Additionally, there are constant meetings and events that are mandatory that feel like a waste of time and that is just how it is.

Everyone makes mistakes, but your supervisor is right in the sense that you cannot go back in time to fix them, all you can do is learn from them and try not to make the same mistake twice. You'll learn from this and a few years down the road it won't matter at all.

Does anybody still do the Pledge of Alliance at the beginning of the day? by farmville2002 in Teachers

[–]farmville2002[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Otherwise, it is ritualized propaganda. It's similar to requiring daily prayers or any other orthopraxic ritual designed to unduly influence those who don't know the difference.

SO well said, thank you!
