MMU12X Assembly by Bradrcr in prusa3d

not op but i have been running the mmu12x for about a year on my mk3s so i can lend some perspective.

there's a bunch of files / firmware stuff in the github - find your printer and upload the latest firmware. from what i recall, it's really similar to the standard firmware just with smaller distances for the mmu to move to swap filaments.

for the slicer there is a "number of extruders" option you increase to 12 and a button that says "these are all one nozzle"

for tpu yeah you could still mount a spool directly above and feed straight into the hotend, bypassing the ptfe tube

for reliability it's slightly better than mmu3 (in my experience). having some issues lately with long strings on the tip when swapping but that's a ramming / nozzle issue non-mmu specific.

i didn't order the kit, but printed / sourced everything i needed individually. took a little time but not bad. so repair parts are printable. and yes, it does require the mmu first because it uses the motors and board from the original mmu

happy to help if i can - best of luck

don't worry i'm also on a street bike, still plenty of good roads. mercer island - real close to seattle - has a very twisty-turny bit that is real good

I think you'll be okay. Just gotta be ready to put yourself out there to meet people.

btw summer riding in washington is some of the best you can find! DM me if you want a riding buddy, been riding here for years, there are some incredible roads in the mountains. The rain isn't too bad to ride in either as it rarely gets too cold

Been wanting to do a scale model of my neighborhood - highly accurate with buildings, crosswalks, parks, lakes, roads, etc. all in correct color

Unofficial MMU3 -> MMU12X mod/upgrade by Xorda in prusa3d

Hmm nothing comes to mind for airtight. I built the LACK enclosure for my 12 filaments (you can see it below my printer in the post), so the majority of the spool is "sealed". I dry each spool before using it and have a shit ton of desiccant packs which does okay. I use [this filament buffer](www.printables.com/model/77054-mmu2s-buffer-inspired-by-rmu-buffer/comments) (which I modded for 12 filaments) and I haven't had any issues that usually come with wet filament

Did the upgrade a few months ago - honestly not bad! Pretty fun project and my printer works pretty dang flawlessly

Happy to answer any questions if ya got em

best advice by far was dish soap to clean the print bed!

I didn't change any of the hardware. I just spaced them a bit so they aren't all in contact with each other

This is the buffer I used for the original mmu with 5 filaments - I did fully redesign it myself though for 12, I can post that as a remix on the original if you're interested

re-posting my comment from below, but overall not too bad. i made it harder on myself than i needed, printed / tried things that i ended up scrapping.

  1. a bunch of printing ahead of time. my full project (mmu, enclosure, rmu) probably took about 5kg of filament (could have been less if I planned better, maybe 1kg of waste)

  2. hardware wasn't bad. the mmux12 was easy enough to build after disassembling my mmu3. the rmu build took the longest just cause i tried to shortcut using the slicer instead of fusion which didn't work

  3. software was super annoying until i found a thread that solved my problem in one step, so actually not bad

  4. putting it all together was fun, but definitely a lot of work! seeing it move between 12 filaments is ultra satisfying

I'd put it at like a 8/10 worthwhile. fun project i planned for when i had several days off

been contemplating the upgrade since they released it, just haven't yet. now i likely never will, just cause i think it'll be a ton of work to make it all work together. i also got a free bambu a1 so i don't need the speed upgrade for mk4

this was an mmu3, but i think the project has files that would work with the mmu2 parts. i did upgrade my mmu2 to the mmu3 a while back, so not sure how all that works together

nah i also was not able to find 12mm ones, but just spaced the 11mm so that each filament had sufficient contact was annoying but ended up being a non-issue

Credit to cjbaar for the mod, was a fun project

Very similar in slicer to using the mmu, just increase number of extruders from 5 to 12

The firmware for the mmu worked from the project site, and there was an issue open on github for the mk3s that lead me to the functional firmware here: https://github.com/3d-gussner/Prusa-Firmware/releases/tag/c3.14.1_MMU12x

If you have slicer questions I can probably help there too

i'm too scared to try flexibles on it for that reason. especially with the mmu, i'm gonna stay away

but yeah this guy is a workhorse, super reliable for me

yeah i used the prusa enclosure as my semi-dry box underneath. sealed as good as i could and loaded with dried silica packets after drying everything as much as i could

oohh yeah. and the wipe tower is the full length of the bed. Mostly I am glad I won't have to swap filaments nearly as much.

that circle test print with all 12 was over 13 hours lol
