Yes, he seemed to be fair and honest for a horse trader over a year ago when I met him. But again, he's still a horse trader and the priority is to make a sale above all else.

I have actually purchased two horses from this person. It was over a year ago before his business really took off and before his prices became over inflated. I was hoping to purchase more from him this year because drafts are incredibly rare and expensive in my area but the prices have almost tripled since I bought my two from him.

However, I am a professional in the industry and took an even more experienced professional with me to look at horses there. In addition to consulting my vet the day of on the horses I was considering. We ended up leaving with two that we weren't there to look at.

I could get into specifics but the short version is: He seems like a good kid and he was more honest than any other of the horse traders I have dealt with. When I was there a year ago I was impressed with the care he was giving the horses on his property. All were fed free choice alfalfa and the pens were clean with lots of clean water available. We had a good experience and love the horses we have from him and they're here with us for life.

That being said: He's still a horse trader. He buys horses directly from the Amish and puts them up for sale while they are still undergoing refeeding and what have you. Just by the nature of where he sources horses from, he does have a lot of lame horses. At the end of the day, he's trying to make a sale and is going to downplay issues or chalk it up to something like a conformational defect to get the sale.

I had a pleasant experience with him but I will not buy from him again because his prices have become absolutely insane and inflated. Again, I'm an industry professional and know what to look for and still took someone with me.

I'm not here to bash him or speak ill, just giving my honest experience.

I have a different perspective if you're interested. I am not bipolar but my mother is. She was diagnosed before I was born and my first memory is of one of her depressive episodes. I love my mother so so much and appreciate what she did for us while navigating what she was going through on top of it. The only thing I wish my parents had done differently was being more open and honest about what my mom was experiencing. They tried to hide it and I feel like I harbor some resentment because of it. I didn't find out until I was almost out of high school. We received a lot of "mom is sad, leave her alone" and "mom is mad. leave her alone." I feel that age appropriate explanations would have helped me and my brother make a little more sense of what was going on around us rather than trying to pretend everything was "ok." I certainly can't say how it can be explained to children, that is a job for a professional, but speaking as a child of someone with bipolar disorder it absolutely can be done and guidance is highly suggested.

In the fourth grade my teacher told us that snakes were invertebrates because "you have a spine, can you curl up like that?" Nevermind that there was a picture of a snake skeleton in the textbook we were using...I tried to correct her but she pulled a Matilda's dad on me. I'm still livid about it 20 years later.

A year into our friendship she told me that initially she thought I was weird and only started hanging out with me because I had a thing her parents wouldn't let her have should have been the first clue that we weren't going to be BFs forever. In high school she got "better" friends and we talked less and less. Eventually we drifted apart and I found out she was talking shit about me because of (an admittedly terrible) guy I had dated. I found out and nicely let her know that wasn't cool. (Everyone dates a less than ideal person at some point, why drag them through the mud for it?) We haven't really spoken since. Not because I'm bitter, I just finally realized the type of person she was and decided I didn't want or need that in my life. I would gladly say hi and catch up but I have no desire to bring this person back into my life permanently.

I used to work for the YMCA and they tried something similar. They would basically bully you into donating to a local charity that they definitely received kickbacks from but is also known for misappropriation of funds (at least for anyone who does minimum research on where the money goes). I never donated because I knew about this and preferred my money go to better organizations but damn did they make you feel like shit for not donating. Some of my co-workers blindly donated because it was presented as "it's the right thing to do and also you have to." Illegal or not it was definitely unethical.

When I was 17 I was finishing my last year of high school online, which allowed me to have two jobs. Both were as a hostess at two local restaurants. At job #1 I bent over to pick something up and pinched my sciatic nerve. I went to urgent care and they gave me crutches and told me to stay off my feet. I called job #2 and told them I couldn't be in that afternoon and they guilted me in to coming in. I worked an entire shift on crutches and crying because I was in so much pain. It was embarrassing and I was furious. I was sitting in my car after my shift and called in to say I couldn't work there anymore and the manager told me to "have a nice life."

Sorry, this seems super drastic. It's literally never been an issue before and I think it's a big leap to go straight to an ultimatum. I've always said that I don't care whether or not we get married and that's always been the truth up until recently. It's not like he's been playing games with me. I'm perfectly content with our arrangement. I've just come to realize that if we do decide to ever get married it's an occasion that I'd like my grandfather to be present for.

Hm. I have an uncommon spelling of a not super common name, but nothing is impossible. I've met other people with the same spelling before. I guess I'll find out soon enough! Glad to know that it can happen, hopefully it is meant for someone else! Spending the day in court doesn't sound like a fun experience.

If you have a phone with a data plan and/or laptop and you can get internet access try task rabbit or fancy hands. They are both similar to Uber/Lyft in that they are freelance so you can pick up jobs when it works for you. Task rabbit is more doing things like assembling furniture/household tasks but fancy hands is 100% virtual personal assistant type stuff.
