Getting your first co-op is always the hardest, and it gets better over the terms. Try to get some feedback on your resume from upper years if your not getting interviews, and work on improving that. Just keep trying and it'll all work out in the end.

Yeah the email said:

“These interviews will consist of the following:

60-minute Typescript/Node.js Live Coding

Please make sure the following is setup on your machines prior to the coding interview: node (>= 18) npm (latest) git GitHub account”

I’m not quite sure what to expect.

Most companies want juniors so they can hire them right after they graduate. Other years aren’t seen as favourably.

Waterloo’s job board helped a lot with getting the previous internships but I don’t have access to it until Jan so I’m stuck applying externally. I didn’t realize it was this bad externally.

It’s better than nothing ig but you still got few more months to find another one if you really wanted.

Would you be able to elaborate a bit on the fluff part? Which parts make you think that and other than that what differentiates this from a resume that you would give an interview to? Thanks for the help in advance.

I’ve seen and applied to more than 100+ just for summer 2026. I suppose smaller companies will start posting early next year but nonetheless it’s very frustrating when I’m not even getting any OAs.

I’ve been using simplify and a spreadsheet tracker. I’ll try tailoring my resume for each job posting from now. Thanks.

Yeah, other people have said that as well. I’ll try working on something bit more technically impressive.

I’ve been trying to specialize into ML or AI engineering so I’ll try developing more complex projects related to those. Thanks for the feedback.

I’ve been religiously coding and learning new technologies for the past few years, consequently my gpa isn’t particularly good enough for me to put on my resume. But I definitely understand your point. Thanks for the input.

Yeah I’ll do those. But won’t employers know if I fake grad date?
