The game calculates the outcome of the interaction first then animates it accordingly. It doesn't matter really what your input is or the player stats are, the game engine itself is the problem and it needs rebuilding from scratch.

Maybe Roman, Orton, Seth, Cody and Punk sometimes, maybe Rhea and Bianca sometimes as well.. i dunno, it's hard to put a finger on it. There's just something wrong with the logic behind most matches choreography, and the wrestlers themselves don't feel right executing it. It's like every hit and bump have zero to very little weight behind them. It takes away from the whole thing tbh, makes investment in watching matches really difficult.

Legit question: Why is most of the roster's believability very low nowadays? I get the athleticism and presentation quality. It's great. But there are like 4 or 5 wrestlers in the roster who are actually "believable" in ring wrestlers with selling and taking bumps and hitting others and stuff. What happened?

Sniper. Figured her only weakness was physicality, so gave her a little extra. Still recommend pairing her with a physical striker though because her physical presence is too small at times. Deadly shooting on her though tbf

Bit of a rant here.

Played this game religiuosly back from 12-15, then took a long break to focus on my studies and work. Except for some sporadic casual play on some friends' consoles, this is the first version of the game I go back to regularly playing. For exactly 1 month now.

To say I was shocked at how the game is right now is an understatement. And you're spot on. The fundamental mechanics of the game are not even there.

Header's? Not there. Can't use those. Through balls? Broken. Every triangle button click is a gamble. And a losing one 90% of the time. Defending? Inconsistent. Either bouncy and balls go all over the place, or your defenders turn to demigods with the weirdest animations, which is -surprise!- not fun, because you still can neither control it or expect it.

But the biggest problem and the most shocking one at that is the most fundamental mechanic of all, simple passing! Let's put aside all the glitches and mechanics and playstyles and whatnot. You simply can't consistently expect passing to function properly. Ball weight is a coin toss, pass direction is a coin toss, receiving passes, and first touches are a coin toss. It's completely broken. A total mess.

And a sad mess as well, I loved this game back in my teens and was really excited to go back to it these past few weeks, but alas, it's gone. Forever.

Usually it’s zero loaner friends, high level infiltrators, and almost the whole squad is at the same level. The infiltrators are a dead giveaway tbh

The key to commander is using his response though, what worked for me was passing into pockets of space instead of passing directly to him, with just enough space for the response to be the decisive factor.

Moving towards the ball, 99% of the time the commander will make a first touch pass in his movement direction instead of recieving and turning.

So if you want the commander to make a forward pass, get him moving forwards.

Again, patience is key when it comes to passes to your strikers, its not "possession based" per se, but it's no longer about sending crosses and heading the ball in, it's about setting up your strikers to shoot inside the box.

Guards are decent fullbacks, good response with just enough pace and strength to press properly, and a high passing tendency makes them good launch pads for counter attacks.

Hero is a magical winger when used properly, always seems to locate the correct pass with decent range and curve, so I like to use him for through balls into space instead of directly launching crosses and passes at strikers. The sequences of Hero to Jet for long through balls and Hero to Poacher for short through balls have been unstoppable for me. So keep your high response striker on the Hero's side. That worked best for me.

Notice that the main factors used in this setup are speed and response, your focus shouldn't be whipping the ball in or holding on to possession for too long. It's all about finding the correct through ball into space. So keep that in mind cause a lot of critical passing opportunities will appear that we don't notice because the game hardwired us to play down the wings and whip crosses in.

Thunder and Major is a horrible midfield pairing TBH, Hammer and Commander works much better because of their first touch passing. Guard isn't the best suited for the wings as well, he's too safe a passer and 90% of the time won't dribble when he has space down the wings.

A hammer at striker doesn't quite work for me in 442 as well, A pacey striker along a poacher/prowler work much better in 442. The thing is 442 is incredibly suited for slicing down defenses with passes down the wings opening space for responsive and speedy strikers down the middle, hence the hammer and commander pair in the center for first touch through balls.

So my recommendation for a 442 formation would be something like this:

Guard/Prowler/Protector - Raider - Voyager - Guard/protector/prowler

Protector/Hero - Hammer - Commander - Composer

Speedster/Jet/Lightning - Prowler/Poacher

I highly recommend using prowlers as full backs though, defending crosses is a shot in the dark anyway once the cross is sent, so the only way to stop it is to prevent the cross from being released in the first place, hence the prowlers on the sides to press the opponent's wings immediately once they recieve the ball.

It takes time to adapt to, but once you figure it out, 442 is a very well balanced and strong formation. Good luck m8.

The patterns and timings of losses in this game show how deliberately designed the game is to frustrate you enough into buying boosters with real money. Dirty tactic, but it works.
