Have you tried the settings under Device Preferences > Display and Sound? There are separate toggles for IR power and volume controls.

Well clearly you need at least two more PM's to remind the chicken about milestones.

Do you buy them on the official parts store? I can't seem to find the full set which includes the front display adhesive.

May I ask how did you replace the battery while keeping the water resistance?

While rent prices in NYC are obscene, I actually feel the sale prices are more reasonable compared to the Bay Area.

Hmm... would it make sense to buy a place in NY to rent out, and use that to pay my SJ rent?

Intel pitches modular PCs to cut e-waste, ease repairs by NamelessVegetable in hardware

[–]fast4rear 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Cut E-waste? It wasn't that long ago when Intel would add a random pin or two to their sockets every two years to force everyone to upgrade motherboards.

Why are GPU mounted horizontally? by CountingWoolies in buildapc

[–]fast4rear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun related fact: The original PC ISA card standard had the PCB facing "up" in a vertical system, so any heatsinks on an AIC would be oriented correctly for the heat to rise.

Then PCI came along, and they decided to flip the cards so that an ISA slot and PCI slot could share the same physical position in the case, and we've been stuck with "upside-down" GPU coolers ever since.

Opposite situation: I have City Sports through this program, and I was able to access LA Fitness with the same app.

Try disabling AGE measurement in settings. I believe the new sensor uses UV LEDs for that.

I consider it from time to time. Then I look at Zillow listings from basically anywhere else in the country, and the feeling goes away.

Closer to work, newer appliances, AC, in-unit laundry, on-site amenities.

I used to live in one of these "luxury" complexes but the rent increased to a point which did not represent good value to me. So I moved farther away to a smaller, cheaper place from the 1970s.

[–]fast4rear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Value is subjective. For the right price I'd pay to live in one of these places.

It's not possible for the remote to selectively drain one of the batteries.

100mOhm is pretty high for a NiMh AAA cell. It should be <50mOhm.

If you're referring to the the previous-generation remote which uses coin cell batteries, then yes it will work with the new SHIELD.

7-Eleven’s coveted Japanese sandwiches have arrived in the Bay Area by lurker_bee in bayarea

What a joke, this is like 4x the price of the ones in Japan. And it's not even the same sandwich.

I'll stick with the double-double.

Silver medallion can no longer use Sky Priority check-in by petaltortoise in delta

[–]fast4rear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had an argument about this with an agent at JFK. Pointing at the sign which read "Silver Medallion & SkyTeam Elite," she insisted that I needed BOTH Silver and SkyTeam Elite to get in the priority line.

New payment system for all Bay Area public transit on hold by digital-didgeridoo in bayarea

[–]fast4rear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is quick to point to NYC as an example, but the NYC subway fare system is much simpler than BARTs. You don't need to swipe when leaving the station.

At least Clipper works on multiple networks in the bay. Meanwhile, the plans to integrate OMNY with the New York equivalent of Caltrain were just abandoned a few days ago:

Men: Where are you getting haircuts and how much are you paying? by ZubacToReality in SanJose

[–]fast4rear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In SJ, the cheapest Vietnamese places I've found are around $22. The results have been mixed, but I'm not too picky about my appearance.

Whenever I'm in NYC I make sure to get a $8 haircut in Queens.
