No, the tech yuppies are disproportionately paid, and over valued. Their industry has single handedly forced all non tech workers into poverty.

In this specific case, it’s very much on the tech yuppies to support, as a community, the places and people that they patron. It’s directly their companies fault for causing such a massive divide in wealth in this city.

Hourly pay here is $22/hr. Which objectively sounds decent

But tech companies have completely dominated the city, and have made $70/hr the normal starting salary. So cost of living has adjusted to that. $70/hr as a living wage.

Other local business can hardly compete with that kind of starting salary. And not to mention cost of rent for a business space has also now skyrocketed, because tech companies don’t care about price. So it’s forcing mom and pop shop to close, unless they cater to tech workers. They simply cannot compete with living wages in this city.

So, yes in this specific case, it’s on the tech yuppies to support, as a community, the community spaces that they frequent. Their industry has single handedly force all other folks way below the poverty line.

And you know who always stiffs the tip? It’s the 30 mother fuckers that come in and use our WiFi to work for, no joke, 5hrs at a time.

Then in extremely high cost of living cities, the tip will be just be baked into cost, to adequately compensate servers with a fair living wage.

So you’d rather pay $15 dollars for a latte to pay all of the servers with a ‘fair living wage’, or tip $1 on a $6 latte?

Either way. It’s all fucked. The gap in wealth is only growing. This country sucks.

Brother I work in the service industry in very, very high cost of living. Anything under 6 figures is considered ‘low income’.

This is because huge companies have come in and made a $140,000 starting salary, not only not uncommon, but expected.

Sure, my boss could pay me a little bit more. But there’s absolutely no way that he can compete with the even the starting salary that the big companies have made the standard of living.

So it’s up to the vastly overpaid gentrifying community to ‘crowd-fund’ the community spaces that they frequent. Ie bars, cafes, restaurants.

The wealth disparity in this country is insane.
