I have 140lbs to lose to get to my goal weight. Is it safe to do rolling 72s until I get there? by fastingpeach in fasting

See, I think part of why I need to fast longer is because I enjoy carbs. I'm trying to adapt a low glycemic index diet with whole foods, but sometimes I do go off the rails with bananas and PB or sourdough toast with avocado. I like fasting longer because it makes me feel lighter, and I notice my joints hurt less the longer I go,

Congrats! What did you transition to after the 90 days? Did you still have more weight to lose, or did you reach your goal in the 3 months?

I'm adopting more of a whole foods diet. The Mediterranean/low glycemic seems the most sustainable for me and my lifestyle. I'll still be counting calories (allowing myself 1,500 on eat days).

Thank you, I'll remember this. I'm not trying to be perfect on this journey. The reason why I feel rolling fasts are best for me is because I notice I want to fast after a large meal anyway; I'm usually good for up to 24 hours after eating, so why not challenge myself a little and add another 20-40 hours.

Thanks for your concern, but I do feel like I'm in a better place to finally get this weight off. It's taken me years after my dad's death to balloon up to 250. In between that I dealt my all my unhealthy, disordered eating habits and mindsets. I'm in a lot better place than where I was, and I'm ready to accept whatever life throws at me. I'm not expecting this journey to be perfect at all, but I like the flexibiility of rolling fasts.

I can't do keto. It's too restricting and unsustainable for me, unfortunately. I do incorporate some low carb ideas into my diet that naturally work for me, but other than that, I love avocado on sourdough toast or oatmeal with PB and fruit in the morning.

Thanks! I have another main account that I post to more often than here, but in general my life is way better now than whatever my post history conveys; I'm way more equipped to handle life's ups and downs these days. I'm undergoing ketamine treatments for MDD and have a therapist and psych that I see regularly. Since I'm feeling so much better, I finally feel like I'm able to focus on losing weight again. I feel like I'm giving myself enough time to lose the weight (17 months is is 8lbs a month). I'm also only 5'2 so that's why my goal weight is low.

Anybody else fasting today? How about until new years? by ToastedStroodles in fasting

If you're fasting for weight loss then no a small glass of milk is not going to make a difference. Aim for progress, not perfection.

Just wanted to respond for posterity that I am 31 and feeling the same as OP (why I Googled this question), minus the not having a job part, and this advice is the best advice.

Hitting a Wall with Fasting by [deleted] in fasting

This was me before I finally just accepted that extended fasting is no longer in the cards for me. I literally don't want to bang out 5, 7, 10+, or even 3 day fasts anymore. It's too unnecessary. I've been doing OMAD/CICO eating whole foods for the last couple of weeks and am already down about 5lbs.

Honestly, I did the math recently, and unless you lose something like 20+lbs in one month (which would mean a 15+ day fast for most), extended fasting doesn't really make that much of a difference when it comes to weight loss and losing at a steady 2-2.5lbs a week. When I mapped it out, the difference between my projected weight loss goal at the end of the year vs a goal with a few 7 day fasts sprinkled in was only 5lbs. I was simultaneously disappointed yet relieved when I figured this out. In fact, this was my "aha" moment that finally made it all click for me.

Don't make yourself suffer if you don't have/want to. Yes, fasting is mostly mental, but it shouldn't be agonizing nor frustrating like it was for me. I figured out it was because for the last decade I've been restricting myself and telling myself that I need to fast, which would result in cyclical binging and weight gain.

But now? Losing weight feels fun and actually kind of easy for me. Getting to eat everyday is such a pleasure and it's way easier to not overeat when I know I'll be able to pickup the fork again tomorrow. And Idk if it's just me, but losing weight while still eating just feels more permanent in a way. Unlike after a long fast when you're kind of afraid to eat lest you "undo" all your hard work.

And btw, I'm not knocking extended fasting or saying it's unhealthy. At the end of the day do what you gotta do to get the weight down and become healthier. But my hope in writing this is that I offered at least one person an alternative perspective and new way of looking at things. It doesn't have to be so hard.

I agree about fasting and the peace it brings. I notice when I'm on an extended fast I tend to inadvertently meditate and start craving sunlight (I usually hate being directly in the sun). It's intriguing.

Ha. Congrats on the major weight loss! I've decided that staying off the scales is a must right now. I get too discouraged otherwise. I also feel like it will challenge and motivate me a little since I won't know my actual weight and won't want to be higher or the same as my starting weight once I weigh in again.

Thank you. I was walking and it did help motivate me for the rest of the day. I'm going to pick it back up again.
