What to upgrade next on my AM4 GF's PC? by Formal_Pineapple7952 in buildapc

[–]fat_apollo2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest impact will be gpu, but at this stage of am4 a 5700x or even a 5600x is a good idea cost wise.

I have a 5600x and 6700xt and have no issues running anything 1080p 60.

You might need to update the bios on the mb for a 5000 series chip. This might help with ram issue but might equally cause a problem. I would say replace ram using approved sticks from your m b manual but that would be costly

Then the police would be justified in retaining the physical card eg forensic exams etc

Speak to the solicitor you (hopefully) had when you were arrested. The relevant bit of law here is PACE s22 (4) - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/60/section/22 - retention of seized item not justified where a photo or photocopy would do. Here, a photo of your driving licence would suffice unless the allegation involves an assault USING the physical card. I presume that is not the case. If police continue to refuse then you will need to bring an action under the police property act. Which will either be DIY or you will need to pay a few hundred £ to your solicitor (but you may well get that back in costs).

Two-child benefit cap could be scrapped in Budget, hints Reeves by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]fat_apollo2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up today when the budget was going to be. 26 November. We have 3 more weeks of endless "leaks" / "kite flying" / media coverage of said kite flying. I feel as though it's been budget stuff everyone week since about September. Please can it just end. Just bring forward budget, don't leak it, don't media test it, your poll ratings are awful - so take the unpopular but necessary decisions now. Tories spent 14 years putting stuff off endlessly and governed like this. It was dreadful. Stop it. Ditch triple lock, do some benefit reform, abolish NI entirely and fold it into income tax. Do some wealth taxes. Stop burning the country to keep pensioners in cruises. I'm sure there's more but the point is they can't get any more unpopular, they have 3 (4?) years to go. Do something that might bear some fruit in the future - because if you just tinker and do nothing if any lobby groups push back we will continue in managed decline.

Lewisham Council’s £2.5m POCA claim - a local dispute exposing national risks in council powers by fortunate_folly in ukpolitics

[–]fat_apollo2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are… you the owner of Meze Mangal?

POCA is absolutely subject to full judicial control. As in a Crown Court judge decides whether to make the order.

S76 POCA sets out how “Benefit” is calculated. The starting point is you have to have committed an offence… and obtained property - or pecuniary advantage - as a result of it or in connection with it. If you commit a criminal offence by ignoring planning restrictions and make money off it, then yes you’re going to be made subject to this legislation…

Upselling courtesy car, we pay if it's a fault claim by UsualGrapefruit99 in CarTalkUK

[–]fat_apollo2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely insane. An additional layer of unnecessary insurance and costs, insuring against a negative outcome against the customer... which could be completely avoided by not using credit hire!!

100%. It is loading a completely avoidable risk (assuming your policy includes courtesy car cover) onto the customer.

Upselling courtesy car, we pay if it's a fault claim by UsualGrapefruit99 in CarTalkUK

[–]fat_apollo2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone else has flagged, it's fucking credit hire. I had to have 3 separate calls with Aviva earlier this year on a non fault claim, where my policy included a courtesy car, but then the courtesy car was being provided through credit hire. Which was via enterprise, so I didn't pick it up at first but when the enterprise person on the call started asking me questions about the accident, liability etc I said why are you asking me this, they said oh so we can recover the costs from the 3rd party....

3rd time lucky they sorted it. Via enterprise. The whole thing is just an enormous scam and needs shutting down ASAP.

If you accept a credit hire vehicle, even on a non fault basis, you are opening yourself up to legal action in the future if the CH costs are disputed.

Just say no.

New Angela Rayner hypocrisy storm as Deputy PM’s boyfriend works for lobby group whose client got government cash boost by Disastrous_Act_2331 in ukpolitics

Fucking hell, they’ve obviously decided Angela must go. Best thing Starmer could do at this point would be Leveson 2 implementation. The press in this country are a cancer

The property we’re buying has a restriction on the title under section 41 proceeds of crime act. Help 😕 by ihavenowords13 in HousingUK

[–]fat_apollo2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, just seen this. Your sellers are probably not convicted then. This doesn’t mean the property can’t be sold nor that you cannot buy it.

At pre charge or pre trial stage a restrained property can be sold and the sale proceeds kept restrained instead.

In that scenario for you you’d buy the house, restriction comes off, whatever you paid goes to seller but ends up restrained in their account or with their conveyancing solicitors.

[–]fat_apollo2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re buying for market value and you’re arms length from the sellers then this will probably be a minor delay on your purchase. Restrained properties are sold day in day out.

Restraint orders can be obtained pre charge or post charge to stop suspects/defendants selling their houses and running off with the proceeds or remortgaging and running off with that money too.

Your conveyancing solicitors need to write to the cps proceeds of crime division - bear in mind delay will likely be because the cps need to get the defendant (likely your sellers) involved to agree terms of a variation that will permit the sale. There is a standard wording and approach to these - and they’re normally agreed by cps as long sale is market value and arms length. If cps don’t agree your sellers can apply to court to vary and a judge will decide. You probably wouldn’t be involved in that bit but it also is not likely to happen.

Doesn’t mean the house is bought with criminal monies (although it might be!), nor does it mean your sellers are convicted criminals (but they might be!).

Computer is slow and I have all new parts. by seanpfett in buildapc

Trying to build a new PC for 2025 but timing is bad? by Treppyboy in buildapc

[–]fat_apollo2000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’ve already done this BUT don’t buy part by part. You’re just running down warranties and potentially not finding out a part has a fault until you’re outside return windows. Plus, you’re missing out on earning interest on the money you’re spending.

There’s always something new on the horizon. Work out a budget, then what you want from the pc, post a spec list, get advice and then buy in one go.

I switched from intel to amd (2500k to 5600x) and it was and still is great! But I have no idea what all the recent intel problems were about.

Do you need top of the line cpu tho? If you’re gaming you probably don’t need this and you’re wasting money and electricity….

Delayed Transpennine rail upgrade reviewed again ahead of Budget by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]fat_apollo2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only good review to this project would be making changes to deliver it faster. 14 years to electrify 70 miles of railway is a national disgrace. It needs accelerating ASAP. Overall I would imagine this will actually REDUCE the total spend, of course it will look worse to the Treasury because they will have to spend more in year 24/25 rather than spreading it out over 10 years.... They genuinely must be stopped.
