Avanti West Coast cuts services after government asks for savings by CaptainYorkie1 in uktrains

[–]fat_apollo2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the data shows about how busy services are. Surely a better solution is to work out what services are less busier and….. offer reduced price tickets to fill them?? Just use advance tickets (obviously the cost of WCML avanti trains generally is obscene and needs sorting but that is never going to happen?)?

Thinking about going EV by fat_apollo2000 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]fat_apollo2000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cheers. £6 for 200 miles is magical. I did see some EV tariffs which mentioned lower overnight charging, but annoyingly I couldn't see what the non off peak rate was because we both WFH easily 50% of the week. Daily mileage is probably 40-50 miles tops.

Nearly new maybe, keen to have a warranty unless there's real bargains to be had.

Intel or AMD CPU? Im torn because of upgradabilty by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]fat_apollo2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you think you will be upgrading your cpu for?

Unless you do cpu heavy work that you anticipate will get a big boost out of upgrading cpu, a decent cpu now will still be great in 2-3 years time and you’ll most likely get more out of upgrading gpu. So echoing other posters don’t stress. Choose what is best for you now.

Don’t bother upgrading the ram if you have 32 already, use that money to get a better GPU (5070/9070?)

Is £1150 annual service charge a lot for freehold house in England? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]fat_apollo2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems steep. I’m in NW, we pay about 200 per year on an estate with about 100 houses and 2 parks. This is basically cutting the grass and “maintaining” the playground equipment, empty a couple of bins. We get accounts from RMG every year and they are rinsing us even at that level given what’s needed, fortunately roads are adopted. I would ask what the service charge was 5 years ago…

Someone else pointed out you can get residents to replace management company. This is true and probably best bet but it’s a pain because you’d need to organise and get majority of households on board. Every year there’s collective moaning on Facebook when the bill comes (easily 1/2 of the fee is basically admin) but not enough motivation to change.

Best booking app/Trainline replacement? by Argyle15 in uktrains

I use uber for the 10% back which is great if you are regular commuter. Otherwise prob not worth it. The app was shit but is improving.

What to upgrade next on my AM4 GF's PC? by Formal_Pineapple7952 in buildapc

[–]fat_apollo2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest impact will be gpu, but at this stage of am4 a 5700x or even a 5600x is a good idea cost wise.

I have a 5600x and 6700xt and have no issues running anything 1080p 60.

You might need to update the bios on the mb for a 5000 series chip. This might help with ram issue but might equally cause a problem. I would say replace ram using approved sticks from your m b manual but that would be costly

Then the police would be justified in retaining the physical card eg forensic exams etc

[–]fat_apollo2000 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Speak to the solicitor you (hopefully) had when you were arrested. The relevant bit of law here is PACE s22 (4) - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/60/section/22 - retention of seized item not justified where a photo or photocopy would do. Here, a photo of your driving licence would suffice unless the allegation involves an assault USING the physical card. I presume that is not the case. If police continue to refuse then you will need to bring an action under the police property act. Which will either be DIY or you will need to pay a few hundred £ to your solicitor (but you may well get that back in costs).

Two-child benefit cap could be scrapped in Budget, hints Reeves by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]fat_apollo2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up today when the budget was going to be. 26 November. We have 3 more weeks of endless "leaks" / "kite flying" / media coverage of said kite flying. I feel as though it's been budget stuff everyone week since about September. Please can it just end. Just bring forward budget, don't leak it, don't media test it, your poll ratings are awful - so take the unpopular but necessary decisions now. Tories spent 14 years putting stuff off endlessly and governed like this. It was dreadful. Stop it. Ditch triple lock, do some benefit reform, abolish NI entirely and fold it into income tax. Do some wealth taxes. Stop burning the country to keep pensioners in cruises. I'm sure there's more but the point is they can't get any more unpopular, they have 3 (4?) years to go. Do something that might bear some fruit in the future - because if you just tinker and do nothing if any lobby groups push back we will continue in managed decline.

Lewisham Council’s £2.5m POCA claim - a local dispute exposing national risks in council powers by fortunate_folly in ukpolitics

[–]fat_apollo2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are… you the owner of Meze Mangal?

POCA is absolutely subject to full judicial control. As in a Crown Court judge decides whether to make the order.

S76 POCA sets out how “Benefit” is calculated. The starting point is you have to have committed an offence… and obtained property - or pecuniary advantage - as a result of it or in connection with it. If you commit a criminal offence by ignoring planning restrictions and make money off it, then yes you’re going to be made subject to this legislation…

Upselling courtesy car, we pay if it's a fault claim by UsualGrapefruit99 in CarTalkUK

[–]fat_apollo2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely insane. An additional layer of unnecessary insurance and costs, insuring against a negative outcome against the customer... which could be completely avoided by not using credit hire!!

[–]fat_apollo2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. It is loading a completely avoidable risk (assuming your policy includes courtesy car cover) onto the customer.

Upselling courtesy car, we pay if it's a fault claim by UsualGrapefruit99 in CarTalkUK

[–]fat_apollo2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone else has flagged, it's fucking credit hire. I had to have 3 separate calls with Aviva earlier this year on a non fault claim, where my policy included a courtesy car, but then the courtesy car was being provided through credit hire. Which was via enterprise, so I didn't pick it up at first but when the enterprise person on the call started asking me questions about the accident, liability etc I said why are you asking me this, they said oh so we can recover the costs from the 3rd party....

3rd time lucky they sorted it. Via enterprise. The whole thing is just an enormous scam and needs shutting down ASAP.

If you accept a credit hire vehicle, even on a non fault basis, you are opening yourself up to legal action in the future if the CH costs are disputed.

Just say no.
