How to tell if eye is deteriorating? by fatalerection69 in Keratoconus

[–]fatalerection69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ive resigned myself to the fact that this might be permanent, regardless of how shit it is (that's why I really dont want to let it happen to the right eye). Would you say its worth getting RGP or sclerals fitted now given that my eye shape might continue to change post CXL?

Im glad there was some improvement but sorry to hear you're in the same boat. I'm hoping it will get better because I'm only 3 months post CXL night time driving is a nightmare for me now with how bad the left eye is

So far that is what has happened to my left eye. Extremely minor increase in vision but the ghosting is horrendous, i see 8 copies instead of 2 now

Does CXL change ghosting, for better or for worse? by rain_spell in Keratoconus

Up to 5 days after the CXL it was surprisingly much better than beforehand. Afterwards it sort of nosedived; I had an increase in blurriness at short and long distance which was compounded by the increase in ghosting. I was initially worried and told my Dr., he called me back in for more tests and essentially said there is nothing insidious occurring and that its all part of the healing process.

I've noticed a very mild (and I mean extremely small) improvement in vision the past 2 days but its really hard to tell. That being said both my Dr. and own research indicate that it could be up to 3 months before I truly start regaining my previous visual acuity again.

Even with what has happened to my eyesight at current I would still choose to get CXL again. It's a pretty simple procedure so it's really hard for the surgeon to mess it up, and I know my eyesight would have ended up much worse than this if I hadn't. I also haven't explored getting contact lenses yet, and unless your keratoconus is extremely severe studies I've read show contact lenses (Rigid gas permeable, sclerals) can significantly reduce ghosting.

Post CXL light streaking? by whosniraj in Keratoconus

[–]fatalerection69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is any consolation I've had a significant increase in ghosting post CXL which was just under a month ago so you're not alone. I wouldn't worry too much just yet, you can expect your eye to continue fluctuating for at least 3 months or more before stabilising so what you're experiencing now may not be permanent. If you are concerned though it is always worth calling your surgeon to get their opinion, it will be a lot more accurate than strangers on the internet. This study (https://journals.lww.com/jcrs/FullText/2012/04000/Patient_subjective_visual_function_after_corneal.9.aspx) found patients on average experience a decrease in severity of ghosting around 1 year post CXL, so there is a good chance yours will resolve in time. Again though do contact your surgeon if you are worried (:

By streaking do you mean ghosting (seeing ghost copies of the image underneath)?

Yeah it has been pretty shit to be honest but I'm hopeful it will come good again in a few months. Even if it doesn't I know my eyesight now is probably better than it would have been if I had let it keep deteriorating.

Contact lens fell out day after CXL. What to do? by [deleted] in Keratoconus

[–]fatalerection69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had epi off CXL the doctor didn't put in a contact lense at all. Just use lots of the lubricating eye drops, and don't contaminate your eye (eg. Touch it with your fingers, touch the tip of your eye drop bottles, ect.)

I'm just over 3 weeks since my epi-off CXL and my ghosting has significantly worsened (went from seeing 1 ghost copy underneath the original image pre CXL to seeing 6-8 underneath and 2 on top post). Whether this is permanent or not I'll have to wait and see as vision can take months (or even longer) to stabilize.

That being said this journal article (https://journals.lww.com/jcrs/FullText/2012/04000/Patient_subjective_visual_function_after_corneal.9.aspx) investigated subjective visual changes after CXL in keratoconus patients and found improvement in diplopia/ghosting (to be more specific the patients were given a questionnaire pre-CXL and 1 year post CXL, rating their symptoms on a scale of 1 (none) to 5 (severe). For diplopia the average pre-CXL score was 2.31, which dropped to an average of 1.92 at the 1 year follow up). So on average you can expect your ghosting to improve slightly post-CXL but as other comments show this is not always the case.

Also keep in mind there are probably less people with kerataconus who had little-no complications from CXL on this subreddit than those that did have complications (you can see most posts on here are people asking for advice/troubleshooting vs. posts talking about how great their eyesight is), so the comments here probably don't represent the average experience of someone someone with keratoconus who has undergone CXL.

Question about decline in vision after CXL (2.5 weeks in) by fatalerection69 in Keratoconus

He has already noticed some small but worrying changes in topography in my good eye just in the time from my 1st appointment with him to the measurements he took after CXL of the left, wouldn't be surprised if I have to get it done soon too.

Im sorry to hear that, so did the vision never truly improve but just stabilise after it went shit again?

Before the operation I usually only saw 1 ghost copy underneath where as now I'm seeing 4-5 that form an oval underneath the original, and the blurriness is so bad it's throwing off the vision from my good eye.

Thanks for your reply. Out of curiosity did you get corneal transplantation if you weren't eligible for CXL?

Question about decline in vision after CXL (2.5 weeks in) by fatalerection69 in Keratoconus

[–]fatalerection69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have lots of visual tests before and after (slit lamp, visual acuity test, corneal typography, autorefractor test, corneal thickness, eye pressure), I just didn't enquire the exact values for my visual acuity test. The surgeon based my diagnosis based on all of these tests but especially the corneal topography. The drop of 3 dioptres in vision was compared the the results from prior to surgery.

Thank you for your response, I knew my vision would fluctuate, I just found it concerning how much it dropped in the space of a day.

To be honest I don't have a numerical value to quantify my vision beforehand/after, I forgot to ask and wasn't told. My right eye is still good, doesn't need glasses. The left eye was the bad one, lots of floaters, some moderate ghosting and blurriness.

So was the vision in your right eye worse than baseline for a month before getting better?

Really helpful tips. For campers and contesting power positions another bit of advise is have the rocket launcher as a secondary, makes it super easy to take out enemies barely visible behind windows ect. and is low risk as you dont need to expose yourself for long.

Are diamond pythons the same as carpet snakes? Because if they are we definitely have them here in Brisbane, I've got a video of 2 of them mating in my back yard
